25 Years of Dominance - All-Trinity Team (2000-2025)

Featured Replies

This is a project I have worked on over the last several months (and honestly years!) with several other members of our community. To say the last 25 years of the program have been successful is a gross understatement, but I thought to put pen to paper and acknowledge those players who have been such a massive part of the dominance of the Shamrocks.

I have these in a nice little PowerPoint that I was going to have presented, but I guess that will have to wait for another time and day.

Who was better Quick or Moore? Both where so good.

I am so glad that Travis Wright was not overlooked. He had great weapons around him but for me he has been the best QB manager of the game since I have been going to games. (2009) He was always calm i

As for my credentials, I graduated in 2000 and was on Bob Beatty's staff from 2007 to 2014 working with film, college recruiting, offense, defense and some special teams. I grew up in St. Matthews going to Jeff, Craig and Devian's games and have spent the last 8 seasons on the broadcast team for the Rocks. Happy to debate or discuss anyone or any position. This is meant to be good natured and an (unofficial) way to celebrate these terrific ball players and their accomplishments.

This is awesome! Would be curious to see if those who have been around longer have anything to add. Would also be interested in seeing more of these be put together for other schools during the offseason.

Thanks for sharing this and taking the time and effort to pull it together. Great work.  I have to challenge 2 things-

1. You have Zane Johnson WAY undervalued. 3 consecutive state championships; beginning as a freshman. Maybe a 4 peat. Come on. Zane is equal to Cam Smith, Spencer Blackburn and Nick Petrino. No way.

2. You seem to favor the first 15 years more than the last 11 years. I see it as more balanced across the 26 years.

Curious on Jordan Whiting as a 2nd team guy? If I remember correctly... he was pretty good and well thought of. Not really questioning...but interested in the thought process.

Leading 3 straight championships as a true Freshman QB and maybe a 4th. Could Zane go down as best QB all time?

Would argue on DL Jason Hatcher definitely has to be first team over anyone except Herron and personally would take Rodjay Burns at DB and Jack Dingle and Jordan Whiting at LB as first-teamers as well. Also Carter Schwartz graduated with me in '23 not '24.

Trinity had an eight-year stretch from 2005-2012 where they were in the state title game every year, winning seven state championships in the process. The longest they've gone without an appearance in the state title game since 2000 was two years, in 2021 & 2022, when they made the transition from Coach Beatty to Coach Cobb.

2001: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 45 Male (Bob Redman) 19
2002: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 29 Male (Bob Redman) 56
2003: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 17 Saint Xavier (Mike Glaser) 14
2005: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 14 Saint Xavier (Mike Glaser) 6
2006: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 14 Ryle (Bryson Warner) 7
2007: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 34 Saint Xavier (Mike Glaser) 28 (OT)
2008: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 48 Simon Kenton (Jeff Marksberry) 0
2009: Saint Xavier (Mike Glaser) 34 Trinity (Bob Beatty) 10
2010: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 38 Male (Chris Wolfe) 0
2011: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 62 Scott County (Jim McKee) 21
2012: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 61 Pleasure Ridge Park (Jason Hiser) 7
2014: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 47 Dixie Heights (Dave Brossart) 14
2016: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 53 Lafayette (Eric Shaw) 21
2017: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 38 Saint Xavier (Will Wolford) 21
2019: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 28 Male (Chris Wolfe) 6
2020: Trinity (Bob Beatty) 28 Male (Chris Wolfe) 0
2023: Trinity (Jay Cobb) 41 Bryan Station (Phillip Hawkins) 20
2024: Trinity (Jay Cobb) 42 Ryle (Mike Engler) 23
2025: Trinity (Jay Cobb) 27 South Warren (Brandon Smith) 14

1) Zane has benefitted from some of the best defenses Trinity has ever produced, specifically last year. If you're looking at his numbers and not the team's, he has been very pedestrian. And as someone who has been to every one of his games, home and road, I feel I can make the comparisons accurately. Look at Travis' winning percentage and stats against the schedule he faced. Stein has a ton of the single-season records with his 07 Season and Nick Bohn has the others. If he wins 4 straight and lights it up against this schedule, I might move him up but that's a big if. Titles do not necessarily make a QB in our program.

2) Who am I missing?

Nobody inside the program would make this assertion. Brock Messina and Phillip McCaulley were definitely the better defensive players and Jordan was just bigger with more potential for the D-1 game back then. Messina became a first team All-American at Georgetown and led the nation in tackles and tackles for loss I believe. He is the most undervalued defensive player by the scouts on this entire list! Jordan maybe should have gone to wrestling at OSU?

Zero chance. I don't feel he can surpass Brohm, Wright or Stein. Unless he goes undefeated this year and throws for 4000 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Jason is another guy who had so much potential and was enormously gifted. His size and speed were unstoppable at times and he was a big piece of the '11 team no doubt. But he was the 3rd best DL on that team.

DB was super tough to wade through other than Ryan White. Rodjay split time between offense and defense due to those teams' needs and maybe that brings him down a little. Jack was a dude and had a great career at UCincinnati, but he gets unfairly demoted due to COVID.
