No more Deming Devils

It would be great to see what they are planning on doing. Maybe they will build a large gym so that they can put the 10th region at Mt. Olivet. :D

I like the idea of a new school, but coming from an old school, it would be nice to have so big work on the old one.

Yeah a 10,000 seater. It can be a mini Rupp Arena

They should name the new school "Robertson-Deming High School." That would lead with the county name so location wouldn't be confusing, while keeping the traditional name of Deming.

That's sort of in the mode of Franklin-Simpson, although it incorporates the city and the town.

I have no idea what a good nickname for Robertson-Deming would be.

The current plans keep both the gym and the vo tech building. The old building will be torn down.  But I know things change.

The facilities will not be torn down because of the importance to the community.

If the facility is destroyed though, you can not replace it. This is beacause the facilities is listed as "Transitional" which means it has been determined by the Board to be phased out of the district. This type of facility does not generate SFCC funds (State Facilities Construction Committee) and may not be replaced if destroyed, only minor renovations may be made to the facility.

Every county resident would have to bring four people from outside of the county just to fill it!

Everyone is correct on the naming. It was named after Judge O.S. Deming. His children were the ones to donate the land. With the stipulation that it was named in his honor or it was a no go.

They were, but decided it would be cheaper to use the current site.

Are you sure? I know that in the past couple of weeks other property has been looked at!

If they get a new gym with the school the owners of the Robertson County Funeral could get naming rights. Tommy Ware the owner could name the gym the Warehouse. The school could be called the Robertson County High School Cutters. As in tobbaco cutters.

What was the name of his "talk/interview show?" The student body section can be named that.

THE SCHOOL CAN NOT, and WILL NOT BE CHANGED OTHER THAN THE NAME "DEMING" AS LONG AS IT IS ON THAT PROPERTY. Yes it is, and was in writing way back in 1927..

Someone better tell Chuck Brown and the school board that then. Because that is what they are saying. It would be interesting for it to end up in court though. I really don't have a dog in this fight other than the fact that I live and pay taxes here. No kids & don't care. I just find it interesting.

By the way the school has bought additional property other than the original sight. You know property that surrounded it so that it all joins together. My guess the originial sight would be the Deming Parking Lot.

I believe I said this on another thread!! To me it makes just as much sense as moving it to Mt. Sterling!!!

From the Ledger: http://maysville-online.com/articles/2007/02/06/local_news/2917deming.txt

Because of the property size and age of the main school building, using the money for repairs to the aged school is not a sound idea, agreed Brown.....................................................

Brown explained that a request for whole facility funding for a new school had not been approved in the past because of a mistaken belief in Frankfort that the request was only for a high school.

"They (KDE) wouldn't consider such a request for a high school with less than 500 students," said Brown. "Because the school name they saw on the address was Deming High School, they did not realize it was for all grade levels."

It seems to me Deming has been trying to get a new school for a while. I do not think it will be on the original site because of its size.

They got $500,000.00 and were told to start looking for land. No piece of property around the city passed approval, from the state. I guess excavating one of those 7 hills wouldn't work. So according to Chuck when he was telling city officials who were concerned about what would happen to the current building, he said they were going to build on the current property they owned. The city liked that plan better because of the H2O department, sewer system and city taxes.

They recently received another 5 million, but still need 5 more I believe was the lastest numbers I heard. But according to Mr. Bearfacts, evidently Chuck or the school board doesn't know as much as they think they do and are telling.

I also heard the Massey family wanted the mascot to be the bulldogs.

New K-12 School 85,000 sf. $12,750,000

They so far have $5.5 Million, which is about half for the school.

Bulldogs sound good.
