Is playing in the rain tonight a smart decision?

Does that go down to the freezing mark for track?  Something else?

I've been at some very cold meets in early March. We practice starting December and long as wind chill above 25 will be outside.

It saves the school on their water bill so they don’t have to use their hoses to muddy up the field for their opponents to have to deal with terrible field conditions. Mother Nature does it for them,

  • We showed up to a game in Owen County one time, late August. Hadn't rained in days, three inches of water on the field. ?

  • Love this comment @FrankNicodemus! Reminds me of Friday 11/29/1996 & that seasons Class A state semi-final game. That particular Friday was preceded by approximately 4 weeks of very little, to no

Interesting threshold.  Give or take, 25 is about the limit for me walking outside.

Track kids will be out there in short shorts though Mr. Guru.

Right, but will they wear long pants two layers and a hoodie in summer heat?

Interestingly, I have seen some do so...maybe not two layers.

We require sprinters to warm up in pants even when hot and they hate it but helps prevent injury by being good and warmed up.

I prefer an umbrella, beater, mesh shorts, visor, thong sandals and a cold one.

I have a big umbrella I use as a change up on hot, sunny days or of course when it is raining.  The show must go on!  And sometimes my neighbors offer me a cold one and I am not the kind of guy to say no although that is rare.

That particular Friday was preceded by approximately 4 weeks of very little, to no rainfall at all, in Eastern Kentucky. As our 3 hour & 20 minute bus ride was coming to an end, and we were entering into a certain school & stadium, a truly "meteorological miracle" occurred that our team was lucky enough to witness: A natural grass field, that hadn't seen hardly any rainfall in a month, was somehow transformed into 3 inches of beautiful Kentucky mud!

As my bewildered teammates & I looked at each other in amazement, all of us spoke & nodded in agreement, there was NO POSSIBLE WAY that the sudden appearance of this "magical mud" had ANYTHING to do with the 5 local FIRETRUCKS that were literally pulling out of the stadium as we were pulling in. If you missed it & you weren't there that late November night in 1996, then it saddens me to say, you missed a true Kentucky miracle that night! ????

Yes I also witnessed that miracle that night.

My reading skills got to thong and I about lost my lunch.  Thank goodness the next word was sandals.

Appreciate the perspective.  Just want to clarify, obviously not advocating for playing in lightning/storms, just the cold, wet weather that may be more prevalent down the road.

The attendance was sparce last night in St. Matthews. I think it would have been better tonight even with the rain chances.

No thank you!

As an official I had an AD tell me they had had a water main break the day before.
