That might be the first time I have ever heard anybody refer to Steve as tough. :thumb:

 

 

Steve could shoot but not physically tough, his brother on the other hand once told UK player Winston Bennett that he was going to take that Gold tooth out of his mouth, the result of that conversation? Four Russell players were taken to hospital for treatment...Winston Bennet now he was a man among boys when he played.

The Stevens kid, John Stacy, Lewis and Brent Burke were tough at Boyd County. Wes Crawford was VERY tough as well.

Tough and Dirty, all good players. Are we talking tough in the sense they were good players or tough in the sense that they never backed down and played hard?

There was an old boy from the mountains that I heard was tougher than just about everybody - Raymond Cox. His son Todd was a great player at Harlan.

I told my uncle & a coach friend of his about Tyler Hicks and how hard he plays. I told them I do not think either has seen a kid play as hard as he does in all their years watching bball. They both thought I was stretching it a bit. When they watched the State tourney in Tylers senior year they both looked me up after Scott Co was beaten out on Saturday morning to totally agree with me. They were fans immediately! My uncle says he has watched bball since 52' and never seen anyone like him. The coach said he would like to get video of him to show his team. This kids effort was just amazing.

Justin Rice of Buckhorn. He goes all out all of the time. His legs, arms and hips are scarred all over from the floor burns he has amassed in his time playing basketball. I haven't seen anyone play harder on every single possesion. He is , also, going to be the first Wildcat to graduate with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
