Covington Holy Cross 6 Bishop Brossart 3

Featured Replies

Indians with a hard fought victory. Every yard was earned.

Scoring plays of the game:

Mustangs kick about a 25 yard field goal just before halftime to take a 3-0 lead into the half.

Indians QB goes on a 29 yard scramble for a TD. Missed XTRA point. Late in 3rd quarter (I believe).

Great game by both teams!

Stat summary is on its way.

Here is the stat summary for the game.

TurboStats GameCast for Football: Holy Cross Indians_vs_Bishop Brossart Mustangs

Covington Holy Cross scores on 23 yard run by QB Brian Ferguson in the 3rd quarter and hangs on to beat Bishop Brossart 6-3 in a huge defensive struggle.  As was mentioned previously by @Kentucky Windage, every yard was earned.  This was a game full of goal line defensive stops, big hits, a number of sacks, and untimely turnovers on both sides.

For Holy Cross, the Indians held the Mustangs to -2 yards rushing and 48 yards passing.  Ferguson had 35 yards rushing but his numbers were held down because he was sacked 4 times.

For Bishop Brossart, the Mustangs held the Indians to 98 yards rushing and 20 yards passing.  Max Runge hit a 22 yard FG near the end of the first half.

Next Friday night, Covington Holy Cross (7-0) is back home in district play against Trimble County.  Bishop Brossart (2-5) travels to play against Ludlow.

Any video of this one? I would like to go back and watch this one.

Credit to WCPO Channel 9 Cincinnati - on the link below is 32 seconds from their Friday Night High School wrap-up show.  Scroll to the video from this game.  It shows a couple highlights including Ferguson's TD run and some words from Coach Spencer of Holy Cross.

I pretty much echo what everyone has previously said.

When we look back on this game, a missed Field Goal attempt that caromed off of the upright, following a successful attempt that was wiped out via flag, and then we were first and goal at the Holy Cross one yard line at the start of the second quarter, where we came up empty, and missed tackles on the Indians' touchdown run will be the factors that will haunt the Mustangs after dropping a 6-3 district seeding decision to the Tribe.

Is that 80 word paragraph a BGP record by Mustang??

It was certainly odd for me to see my former colleagues on the other side of the field in green and white.

A 6-3 outcome left me little subject matter.

Brossart lost a close one to Sayre and now a close one to Holy Cross. To me it seems like the small things are holding them back. Would that be accurate?

I think it’s always good when your defense can hold anyone to low scoring games. The Sayre game made me think they were about to make some noise. Then it’s like the wheels fell off. Hopefully this is a good sign going forward for them (Bishop Brossart).

Covington Holy Cross showed they can  play defense too with out lighting up the score board like they have in previous matchups. I’m also at the moment highlighting that last game against Bellevue.

I was thinking Holy Cross was going to score around 30 in this one. Brossarts defense is legit?

No.  They gave up 30 points to Nicholas County and were running clocked by Bracken County.

Brossart's new D coordinator brought with him a good scheme and they have had some success with it.  The biggest issue, like most small schools, is that they are not deep and injuries take their toll.  Bracken and Nicholas both utilized their size to run over the Mustangs.  The good thing is that some young guys are getting PT which could help them in the playoffs.  They really need a win against Ludlow.
