Taking a trip in the way back machine, we at Beechwood always loved playing CovCath in anything.  We knew we were up against superior talent (most if not all the time) but it didn't matter.  Bring it on!

Superior talent or superior depth in numbers?

I can understand what you're saying, but with the caliber of program that Beechwood is, I don't feel that way personally. First off, look around NKY at who we have to play....Beechwood is easily one o

Depth for sure and probably talent too.  We were little, single A Beechwood at the time.  My graduating class had 53 students and that is male and female.

Mine had 670.  I guess that would have made us 6A in The Bluegrass State.

Beechwood is playing without their #1 rusher/#3 tackler on Friday, and they're also playing without their starting kicker who put 4 of their 5 kickoffs into the endzone against us last year (his other kickoff was to the 1 yard line). Taking away Dylan Gaiser on kickoff returns is definitely a valuable tool to have in the toolbox - especially when you also happen to have your own returner who ran two kickoffs back for touchdowns against us last year.

I feel like that leans hard in Cov Cath's favor to win, although Beechwood definitely managed to pop us in the mouth and put us on our heels the last time we played in Fort Mitchell. They were up 21-0 on us like 2/3 of the way through the first quarter and we didn't take the lead until end of the third quarter.

For me, that game is one of the more disappointing losses for Beechwood in the last 20 years.

Dylan Gaiser was actually the backup quarterback last year not Queen.

You sure of that?  Since Gaiser threw 1 pass all season, perhaps he was more situational direct snaps for QB runs?

Yes, considering there weren't many opportunities to use the backup qb. Queen typically went in during the high scoring games  after the second quarter.

Small sample size, but how do the Beechwood folks see Queen compared to Clay Hayden?

I'll give you some thoughts on the QB conversation. It certainly is an interesting one considering Queen and Harney each played at the opponent's school.

First, I think everything has worked out well for the schools and the players. CCH is happy with Harney and he is happy to be there. Beechwood is happy with Queen and he is happy at Beechwood. As to Hayden, he owns the passing records at Beechwood and led Beechwood to two state titles. Obviously, zero second thoughts about Hayden over Harney with those results. And glad Harney got himself a state title ring while at Beechwood.

Queen vs Hayden? For me, Queen has exceeded expectations. He isn't Hayden level but the gap between Queen and Hayden is not as wide as I feared it would be. Queen's stats and performance in his first three games have been elite level - 42/58, 795 yards, 10 TD's and 0 INT's, averaging 19 yards per reception. WOW! Better than anyone could have hoped for.

Friday Queen faces his biggest test. It is a darn shame one of the key offensive players will miss the game. It will have an impact. That adds to the challenge. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Agreed on all counts.  A couple of your district opponents stink, so you have to balance it somehow.   Playing the best NKY teams seems like the best option.

SK often takes a lot of heat for scheduling BW.  It’s a long drive for them to even find another 6A team, most likely a drive to the ‘ville.

Nothing wrong with playing the best in the neighborhood, and maybe developing a great rivalry or two along the way.   And as always, preparing your team and your players for an extended postseason run is the ultimate objective.

I never said there was anything wrong with it.

I'm taking Beechwood in this one.
