Maybe what BigBubba posted about the refs is true. It must have been bad if the winning team is still complaining about the calls.

 

Well, at risk of opening the whole can of worms all over again, I must restate that the officiating was not bad at all. It was consistent on both ends of the floor. It was a very physical ball game and the officials called a loose game, allowing some contact, but both ways. I find it interesting that in Title IX everyone wants "gender equity", well, if the girls want the same treatment as the boys in every other aspect, they must endure the same type of officiating as well. Want to play those "Prime Time" games, want equal pay for coaches (most of which I agree with by the way) then you got go all the way and start playing with physical and mental toughness as well. Just my two cents worth, which these days is really only worth about a cent and a half.

I agree with all of your comments GoRadio and also want to echo those others who have complimented you on your announcing. I listened to you guys alot especially during the post season run of regionals and state. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the broadcasts from the girls state tourny last year. It was so good to hear local folks, calling the game for local girls they know. Your radio station is always programmed into my car radio throughout the year especially during baseball season to cheer on my beloved Reds. I can't wait for Spring training to start now that the NFL is done.

 

Of course that is until July/August when we here at Russell begin to get excited about our football friday nights!!

I got to see Queen play and she may be Miss Basketball and she may be number two in the 16th. The game I saw Fortman I thought she might be better. What does everyone in the 16th think. And if we are taliking about dress, does Rose Hill have a dress code for coaches?

Well here we go again...the worm just jumped onto the hook, nice bait. You are right GoRadio it was consistently bad for both teams. I wish the next game that you air a RH game that you would stay about an hour after the game that way everyone is gone then do an interview with the refs and get their side of the story.

 

I'm just stating observations from both sides of the court. A foul is a foul no matter what team is called for it. The refs can let them play without letting get out of hand, there is a difference between physical play and dirty play. I am not accusing either team of the latter but when it is really physical then tempers will flair and it becomes dirty, players giving cheap shots. Thats all.

 

And by the way, I watched the fans from East last night at the end of the game they were just as shocked and confused as the fans from RH were. I have seen many games where time has expired and the ref still goes to the time table makes the call and the player shoots the free throws. Even though that would have not affected the outcome of the game last night because RH was winning but if the situation was reversed then I am sure there would have been complaints from East.

 

It was a hard sloppy played game. RH had a chance to bury them and didnt do it. I dont credit East has much as I fault RH on the outcome, RH had a chance to put the game out of reach in the 2nd quarter and didnt do it. Hagar is a good coach and I do applaud their effort but the game should have never been that close. Not blaming the refs for the close game but I am saying they need to clean up the play. I have watched many boys games this year. Girls college games and none were as physical as the 16th Region. So having said that maybe the refs are giving our girls a better chance of making it on the next level. Refs are underpaid as well.

I saw "physical play" you saw "dirty" play. I saw a game that was under control and called loosely, you saw a "sloppy game called badly". We will never change each other's mind, so I will not comment on officiating in this thread any more. How about...using a single game performance for either player is probably not the best measuring stick. As far as who is the "better" player...not sure one can say. Look at them...they are so similar in body style, skills, etc...one would simply have to say that both have had wonderful high school careers and have tremendous potential at the next level. One has to, however, credit Emily for a high school career which will see her leave, Lord willing, as the all-time leading scorer as well as the all-time leading rebounder in the 16th region's history. I would hope that you would not discount that feat.

 

I'm quite biased in my opionion with regard to Emily, but have always said that Fortman (as well as Okoro) are grossly underrated by coaches and writers throughout the state. It is one of the reasons that I have more and more become, not only a Lady Royal fan, but a fan of the 16th Region relative to the rest of the state.

 

Here's hoping we get to see Emily and Jessica compete against one another in Morehead.
