Football! I would like to know how many schools actually do spring football in NKY. I know this might throw this topic off but just curious. Then I think you will be able to link the two as to why the baseball program is where it is right now

I'm asking why does it seem like HHS is the only high school baseball team in NKY that has an issue with boys wanting to skip baseball for a week to go on spring break?

I think the issue is, this is the first year the Head Coach has come out and said "you cannot play baseball at HHS if your planning on leaving the team over Spring Break". This has caught most people by surprise since going south for Spring Break in Ft. Thomas is a very popular thing to do. Last year a "few" players left the team over Spring Break, came back, got suspended for leaving and missed more games. In his opinion it didn't do much for building team unity.

So what you are saying is that CovCath and others have no problem with kids going on spring break and missing baseball games. I find that hard to believe.

 

I think the problem is that HHS has finally decided to do what everybody else does (that's a first) and not allow the kids to miss baseball so they can start building a program like it used to be - A heck of a lot more competitive, winning program. There seems to be a few adults that have talked their kids or given them no choice in the matter and would rather spend their spring break with their neighbors in Florida. Sounds like fun to me. These parents and kids need to realize that for 99% of them this is it. After High School it's all over except of course for the beer league softball game. Woo Hoo!!!

BB - its a non-issue at CCH and almost every other school. The players would not even CONSIDER skipping a week of baseball to go on a vacation. That's my point. Someone pointed out that previous coaches let it happen. Maybe that's it. I applaud the current regime for their easy-to-understand stance.

How many kids fall into this pattern that their parents are forcing them to not play baseball this year? How many kids from last years team didn't come out this year because of this new rule?

I'm stunned that people would have their kids take spring break trips at the expense of high school sports. Having had one go through high school sports already and having others still in sports, I can't imagine passing up the opportunity watch my child compete and be a part of a team simply to lay on the beach in March. Its mind boggling and something that I know I would absolutely regret. One week on the beach does not equal a chance to be part of high school athletics.

 

The only thing worse would be trying to convince everyone that its the coach's fault that their child is not playing instead of looking in the mirror.

Well first of all let me say, I think if your going to play baseball then you need to be committed to the team and if that means missing spring vacation then so be it. When you play on teams you are making a committment to everyone else on the team, and they count on you to be there...

 

However I find it funny how some baseball coaches would usually give their teams 4 or 5 days off so this way the coaches can go down to watch the state basketball tournaments. So they are able to take a little vacation for them selves, but they would get mad at the players for going on vacation during break...

....:thumb: Difficult to get the respect, if this is occurring. I guess the "do as I say, not as I do" method, applies in that case....:lol:

 

I'd enjoy watching the Sweet 16, as much as anybody but if you commit, you commit, both as a Player and Coach. I can see and agree with, scheduling Practice around when your school might play or the Saturday games.

I don't know from last year, but from what I've been told this year there are a few. Mostly, not all, but younger kids that just might make a difference in turning the tide. The older kids have already lost interest and are playing/training for other sports. That's a shame IMO.

As for last years squads, I know of only one that's not returning. It has nothing to do with Spring Break. He's been trying to play 3 sports at HHS and thats very difficult today. From what I hear, he's pursuing football and basketball. I think the coaches have been pleasently surprised by the talent in the underslasses during tryouts.
