Martha Layne Collins will be up there near the middle of the pack in due time. Kade Goodin is an absolute problem and now he has WRs that can make plays. They play a very good Oldham County team this week and then Scott Co, Woodford, and South Oldham in district. To say they'll be battle tested is an understatement. If they can compete with Scott and Woodford, watch out come playoff time.

  • Like I said after the Anderson game, don't sleep on Cooper but I don't know about number one.  On Atherton, I tend to agree and we find out this week.

Next man up is true in high-level college and pro, not in high school.

  • I'd have Cooper at one. And I still don't think there are 6 teams better than Atherton in 5A.

Only issue they’ll have is assuming Scott County, and Woodford edge them to 3rd or 4th place in the district, round two is more than likely a trip up to Union in a game vs Cooper.

Would not shock me if Scott County and Woodford are very competitive games for them. Those two are legit (especially Scott County) but this is Collins' best team in a while.

Cooper has the best win of any team in 5A (Ryle)

Scott Co. has the second-best win of any team in 5A (BG)

If Atherton wins Friday, they will have the second-best win of any team in 5A (Manual)
If BG wins Friday, it is arguable that they would have the best win and certainly the second-best win of any team in 5A (South Warren)

As it stands, Woodford is not in that conversation.

1. Cooper
2. Scott Co.
3. Atherton
4. BG

5-10 Mixed bag... including Woodford.

Using the data from Calpreps (in parentheses) to rank the wins, the five best in Class 5A are

  1. Cooper beat Ryle (#594)
  2. Woodford County beat Harvest Prep (#1149)
  3. Scott County beat Bowling Green (#1587)
  4. Scott County beat George Rogers Clark (#2319)
  5. Pulaski County beat Bryan Station (#2345)

Woodford County and Scott County both beat Great Crossing (#2544), which would tie for 6th best win.

Give me a healthy BG team, with a freshman QB that has 9 games under his belt against some great teams, in November and I like their chances to run the tables and make it to the 5A Finals for the 5th time in 6 years winning their 4th in that span. 5A is up for grabs by all means, but there is just something about a healthy Purples roster with their staff come playoffs.

I wonder how different this list is going to look come Monday. How much does Madisonville move up? How much does Woodford and BG move down?
