Winning the "A" State under adverse conditons makes it twice as sweet.

 

Bryan Niemeyer stepped in admirably for Nathan Mutsch and was the championship game MVP.

 

This is a gutty, confident, bunch of kids. They are courageous and resiliant.

 

This is indeed a proud day to be a Mustang. I am happy for this team, our coaching staff who always believed and gave our kids every opportunity to win, and our program who has been to alter on many occasions, and finally brought home the big prize.

 

We had a TREMENDOUS student following and our "sixth man" played a huge part in our success.

 

I'm proud of the fact that every kid in our program are home-grown kids who played in our feeder grade school programs and congratulate Tim Machenheimer, Jim Uebel, Rick Williams, Kevin Gray, Chris Schrieber, Bob Rowe and our entire coaching staff who made contributions over the years that brought us to this day.

How did Highlands let this guy get away? The man is a great coach. Congratulations to the coaches and players. Mustang I'm sure there was a time you never thought you would see this day!

Congratulations. You represented the 10th region well. Just curious, I know the winners of the sweet sixteen order rings, does the winner of the All "A" order championship rings. It would be nice if they did. Not everyone gets a shot in life to get a championship ring.......I know Hazard did a couple of years ago, just curious if it is the norm for the All "A" state champion to do the same as sweet sixteen winners and order championship rings....

I think it is just up to the school. And I would think BBHS would do so.

We will be getting rings. They will have to be independently funded.

That's great that Bryan did well. I'm still shocked when I see him at 6'4 or 6'5 when I used to see him as a little kid who was not very tall for his age. Good to see hard work and patience paying off.

 

BTW, I think I heard his dad cheering all the way from Richmond.

Mustang I'm sure there was a time you never thought you would see this day!

When I started here some thirty years ago, we weren't on the same planet as the teams that compete in these type events.

 

Until 1986 we didn't have a gym and toiled in relative obscurity.

 

In 1990 when Coach Tommy Creamer came to Brossart he gave us validation and the program began to improve dramatically. When Willie Schlarman arrived in 1997 he taught us that it was no longer acceptable to play close and lose big games, he taught us that defense wins, and we became a highly competitive top-notch program. We played in two 10th Region finals and went to Rupp.

 

While I have still been a few years behind in adjusting to our success, I have been more adjusted to expecting us to be competitive at the top rung of competition.

 

It has been a long and frustrating All "A" experience. I was just thrilled, especially for this team and our coaching staff to finally get the job done at EKU after so much frustration.

 

Guess it goes to show that all good things come to he who waits - as long as he who waits works while he waits!

Brossart is a school that does it by the book. It takes its own kids from its own district and teaches them to play "Brossart Basketball". Brossart does not recruit. It does it the right way. Six of the eight seniors went to the same grade school about 1/4 of a mile from Brossart.

First off. Congrats to Bardstown. They never gave up in this game and fought to the end.

 

Brossart's size was just too much.

 

Matt Lloyd played great. Kidney got in early foul trouble in the first quarter and Matt came in and distributed the ball very well.

 

Neimeyer, all I can say is wow. If this kid plays like this every game, watch out. FEARLESS.

 

Cooper is a machine down low, but we all knew that already.

 

Uebel, what a competitor. I'm really proud for this kid. I had talked to him a little bit over the summer about championships. Lets just say he fulfilled his promise.
