Highlands 5 Beechwood 2 (9th Region Championship)

Birds strand Brooks Hendrix on second after a leadooff BB. Strikeout, strikeout, groundout (nice play by Beechwood 3B Sawyer Carlisle).

Highlands 3, Beechwood 2 - Mid 5

Tigers score two on THREE errors by the Bluebirds infield. Highlands now has four errors in two innings.  Highlands 3, Beechwood 2 - End 2

Beechwood 4, Highlands 3  In a game pitting two aces against each other, Flaherty comes out on top.

Tigers leave one on base and trail 2-0 end of 1.

Beechwood missed opportunity after Fryman walks to leadoff the bottom of the 5th. Lineout, strikout and Robinson - with perhaps the play of the game so far - picks off Fryman at first.

Highlands 3, Beechwood 2 - Top 6

Definitely great play, optimizing on Fryman asleep.

Tigers down to their last three outs ... now trailed 5-2 on RBI doubles by Brooks Hendrix & Adam Forton.

Highlands 5, Beechwood 2 - Mid 7

Robinson (Highlands) - 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K - 74 P

Some great plays and not so great plays. Quite a few errors for a Regional Championship game. I think official scorer may have been generous as well on couple more. But overall very good competitive game. 1 question, what was all the hoopla from Beechwood's 1st base coach after the bottom of 6? Not sure what happened over at 1st but the inning ending play was a force out at 2nd. Anyone?

Runner on first or coach called time which was granted by the base umpire but not home plate ump.  Kid was walking back to first when ball was hit.

Gotcha. Still would have been easy out at 2nd to end inning but can see where they would be upset.

You are 100% correct on the force play but the umpire, because he had granted time, also was in the path of the runner when he turned to attempt to go to second.   Beechwood could also argue that they had a steal in place so things could have been very different......

A really bad cluster by the umpires on this play but it really did not affect the out come of anything.  Just a horrible look and then made worse by trying to claim no time was granted.  Time was clearly granted by the first base umpire.   Sometimes its best to admit yeah we screwed up.......

Good synopsis.  Both teams made mistakes both physical and mental.  The inability of Beechwood to get bunts down killed them.  Especially in light of all the throwing errors Highlands infield made.

Did BW have 2 men picked off 1st?  One by pitcher and one by catcher?

That might explain some reasoning I saw on Facebook this morning!

Congrats Birds, stay classy Coach Gray.
