Pete Rose removed from permanently banned list by MLB

Many stupid things about baseball, keeping Pete Rose out of the HoF was one of them.

Sorry Marty, I think you are wrong again. If he gets voted in, everyone should be thankful that he got voted in. And it isn't a guarantee he will get elected in. I believe Barry Bonds only got 4 votes when he was considered by the veterans committee. What will Marty and others say if that happens when Pete is considered?

Pete broke the one rule every player knows you don't break. Then he lied about it for 15 years. He lied to Bud Selig when Selig was considering Pete's status and asked Pete to come clean. Then he continued to work in casinos. Pete banned himself and maintained that ban ever since with his own actions.

A little late for the Hit King.

Or just on time.  It was a lifetime ban and he served that.  If anyone should be hacked, it should be the family of Joe Jackson, who completed his lifetime ban decades ago.

I will always argue the unpopular angle that being reinstated while still alive would have been the worst thing to happen to Pete.  He made a post playing/managing career out of being the guy baseball hosed.

Reinstated while still alive and Pete would have just been another old former player.  Granted, one with more hits that anyone in MLB history, but still just a former player.  Known to true fans, but unknown or forgotten by the casual observer.

It is hard to believe that today Sept. 11, 1985 40 years ago Pete Rose hit #4192 and passed Ty Cobb as the all-time hit leader.

Setting up an autograph stand down the street from the HOF ceremonies didn’t help either (or am I misremembering).  But being a first class jerk shouldn’t disqualify someone from the Hall in and of itself.

You aren't misremembering.  Rose was many things, and a first class jerk was one of them.
