Breathitt County 61 Hazard 59 (14th Region Championship)

Final from Knott County Central.

Breathitt wins they're second region title in three years.

Hazard had defeated Breathitt four times this season but lost when it mattered.

 

Breathitt was up 4 with 4 seconds left, Caudill hits both FT's to make it 61-59 Breathitt, Hazard fouls Sperry about 4 seconds left, he would miss both and Caudill's heave from half court hits the back part of the rim on the side and comes off. Breathitt wins.

27 points. Simply put his team on his back and carried them through. In the three regional games he scored 96 points. 
He had a couple of awesome two handed  dunks on drives to the basket through defense. As a 6’3 guard his vertical hops are great! And he didn’t just do it with dunks. He had pull-up midrange jumpers, 3s, assists, rebounds….just all around solid game.
Being from the a neighbor county I have observed Breathitt basketball since the early 1960s and in my opinion Austin Sperry is the most athletic and talented guard that’s ever played for the Bobcats. And they have had numerous great players who have played D-1 over the years.

Did Sperry miss any time this year due to an injury he suffered at the end of his football season?

Hazard just can’t beat Breathitt when it matters. Three straight years they have been eliminated by the Bobcats. Hazard has had the best team in the region 3 straight years brutal.

If they had the best team for three straight years, they should have won the regional championship three straight years, but this didn’t happen so I question if they were truly the best.

Eversole from Hazard greeted BC fans with a double fisted finger show and dared fans on the floor to fight him, also Hazard coaching staff didn’t come out to receive their lanyards when their names were called and just simply sat there, now that’s a really classy bunch!

The main reason I stopped officiating football was the overall lack of sportsmanship from the ADs, coaches, players and fans.

The best team doesn’t always win in single elimination tournaments. I believe they had the best team 3 straight years. It’s hard not to think that imo.

PCC and BC would have to be in the discussion for the best team in all three years.
