Kentucky Sweet 16 Draw 2/14/25 at 1:00pm

I don’t love how late they’ve done this the past few years. Would like to see them get back to doing it in late January.

Nevertheless, will watch with great anticipation.

Excited for all the usual complaints:

-6th and 7th play in the first round every year!

-Why don't they seed it?!

-Putting game times in after the draw is dumb!

I vote to do it after the regional tournaments are complete. Teams, coaches, and communities get together to watch it, almost like a "Selection Sunday" feel.

Not a bad idea but there are some potential logistical issues that come up: if weather delays a region tournament, then the other 15 teams are waiting to find out who they play. Whichever event, boys or girls, is being played first, might have just a day or so to prepare for an opponent but even more of a problem would be schools and fans having to make travel plans at a moment's notice.

First half is done:

Region 16
Region 1

Region 4
Region 5

Region 8
Region 12

Region 6
Region 7

How often has 6th vs. 7th happened since 2000?

I mean it isn't that big of a deal if a region still hasn't been completed. You just set the date for the Sunday (or whatever day) after most regional tournaments are complete. It wouldn't be any different in travel setup, maybe a day or two (depending on when the championship normally is), and the preparation time would probably be more fair. Especially this year, where tournament dates are all over the place due to the boys tournament being so late.

Despite the popular myth, just twice in the 1st Round.

4 times in the quarterfinals: 2005, 2009, 2017, 2024.

Based on Runcible Owl's post on the regions ranked by the Massey Ratings it appears that the top bracket is the toughest.  That bracket has the regions ranked 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10.   The bottom bracket has the regions ranked 1, 3, 8, and 9.  Of course, anything can happen in a tournament so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
