Is this a regular thing for them?

Not sure, I'd would guess so.  I see this a lot in the Cincy schools.  It makes the most sense for teams like Lloyd being a working class community.  This frees up the kids after school to work, and some of those boys have to work.  So it doesn't put them or their families in a situation where they have to choose food on the table vs working out.

Now, in my experience, teams that workout before school, after doing it for a few years, seem to have more success with the program as a whole.  They win more games, kids attend school more (they are already there), and do better while in school.  It takes the kids 3 or so weeks to adjust, and those 3 weeks are rough, but after that, they are more attentive in class and get more out of school as a whole.  It also cuts down on disciplinary issues because they don't have that pent-up energy, nor are they dreading what workouts will be like after school since they've already had it.

I wish more schools would adopt the before school workouts honestly.  Every athlete & coach I've talked to seem to like it better after they get used to it.

Love what Coach Niederman is doing at Lloyd. He understands the dynamics he is working with, and is pouring into those kids!

If your school can do it morning practices are the way to go. One reason it’s good at Lloyd is it’s a walking district. Districts with a wider spread it is more challenging or just not an option. It is also harder to do depending on your staff and their jobs.

The other upside for Lloyd is it helps keep the kids from running the streets or staying up till whatever time in the morning.

Smart coach and he definitely cares about the kids.  And if his workouts and weight training is anything like I remember, they bring the intensity too.

I have heard alot of good things about what his kids are doing in the classroom as well. He doesn't except scaping by or mediocrity!

I thought he was an assistant principal now at Lloyd. Is he teaching classes too?

To my knowledge he is assistant principal.  No classes being taught.  Being an assistant principal and head football coach is 2 full time jobs.

Yes assistant principal. That probably makes the kids hold themselves even more accountable.

I've heard that Kegan Farrell has transfered to Withrow University High School in Cincinnati. @Colonels_Wear_BlueCan you confirm this at all with your investigative skills? You were the first one to confirm back in the winter when he had enrolled at Lloyd.

They're an OH-DII team from Cincinnati. It's been a while since they played anyone from Kentucky, but I think I remember them beating Bishop Brossart pretty soundly a number of years back. I would say they're a decently evenly-matched team for Lloyd, with the Juggs probably getting a little bit of a nod as the better team.

Aiken will be a good test for Lloyd! Coach Duka has been doing a great job over there! They definitely have athletes and speed!

That is indeed true. Twitter bio said Withrow. What is odd was I saw him working out in front of a bunch of college coaches at Withrow's showcase back in May and a couple weeks later I saw him at Lloyd's spring practice.

Two of the best. Both were assistants on Red Dog Dougherty's 1976 undefeated state champions. Another assistant coach on that 1976 team was Randy Cooper, namesake of Cooper HS. That 1976 Lloyd team is one of the best ever.

I wonder what happened in that Lloyd Highlands game?
