It's well worth the trip.  As for Ky fan base parking rankings, Highlands fans have to hold the #1 spot.  They've trained their whole life for this scenario.

I think Harlan County's stadium is immaculate.

Been to the Pitt once. Great stadium and atmosphere. I had an awesome time. Not so much for the Elder faithful. ?

Elder Panthers ?

2024 Outcome: 6-6 | Lost in the second round of the OHSAA playoffs to Lakota West

2025 Outlook: Elder is a familiar name within the halls of BGP, as the Panthers frequently play teams from our side of the river, namely Highlands, and in recent years, St. X.

If there was ever a year for us to talk Elder football, this is it.

For the ‘25 season, their schedule has a distinct Kentucky flavor, featuring the aforementioned Bluebirds and Tigers, plus Covington Catholic. Those three are a combined 2-17 all-time versus the Panthers. They've beaten X three years in a row, though all have been competitive.

The following players were All-GCL selections last season:

? Joey Thamann (RB) | Joey Ditullio (DB) | Cooper Sandhas (DB) | JT Hofmann (OL) | Christopher Paff (WR) Matthew Golinar (DL)

? Derek Uran (LB) | Alex Dugan (LB) | Tyrell Scott (OL)

Uran was the GCL South's LB of the year and holds strong interest from the MAC, with offers from Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Kent State, and Toledo. He's a disruptor and makes plays at all three levels.

The loss of Thamann, a speedy all-purpose back and GCL RB of the year, leaves a void in the offense, but the Panthers return QB Kaden Estep and 6’4”/300 lb Tyrell Scott up front.

In true Elder/GCL fashion, they play a meat grinder of a schedule that produces a formidable football team. CovCath has never beaten them, but the blue Colonels catch them early. St. X will see them mid-season, while the Birds get them late, on the heels of what's sure to be a physical encounter with a powerhouse Moeller squad.

Always thought it was weird Elder is located where it's at. For years in the work force I have come across co workers who are Elder grads. They make it very well known how proud they are to be Elder alumni. First thing I ask them is " well how ya like that drive to and from school everyday?" And I get the same weird looking grin as a response everytime lol. Anyone know the backstory on how Elder ended up being located where it's at? Possibly when Elder was built Price Hill was a thriving community?

Why does everyone in NKY take their chances with elder than the other GCL schools?

You pretty well hit it on the head there. When the school went there, most children had to walk to school, so it was built in the town many lived in. At the time, Price Hill was a thriving and growing part of Cincinnati where wealthy businessmen, etc. could live on the "outskirts" of the city. Since then you have continued to see the urban sprawl take out more and more farmland and the "outskirts" move further and further out.

Price Hill was also easily accessible at this time by the cities Incline, which allowed children from other neighborhoods to attend as well. Top that with the well rooted Catholic culture in most of Cincinnati (which still exist today) and it was the perfect place for the school. In the early days of the school, Price Hill was the place to move and also boasted a great city/river view in many parts.

Price Hill was definitely a thriving community when Elder was built.  Just look at the actual houses in Price hill..... the vast majority are 3 stories with grand porches and many have elaborate architecture.  That was where the professionals moved 100+ years ago..... you got more house, you got a yard, and a driveway to park your new car(s).  It was still a decent working class area even into the 90s, there were some rougher areas definitely, but plenty of nice families still lived there.  It went WAY downhill when Cincy cleaned up and gentrified the Over the Rhine neighborhood.  It seems all the crime moved to Price Hill and a couple other places. Price Hill is starting to recover with some gentrification of it's own, but it'll be a long road if the neighborhood ever gets back to what it used to be.

Spot on...

I still remember the pushback vs Cincinnati's response with the Over the Rhine cleanup. Crazy to watch in my more formative years.

Cincinnati offered programs (or said they were going to) to help extend education, find better paying employment, acquire financial literacy skills, etc, but the truth remains that there will always be crime and poverty somewhere. They just moved it to other parts of the Greater Cincinnati area.

This is a solid question. Seems that CovCath, Highlands, Elder, St. X, etc. could each play once every year or so and give a quality game close to home for each of them. Yeah, NKY would take some whippings, but they'd hand a few back too.

I think Cov Cath would lose by 3+ TDs almost every season to Moeller and X. I might be being generous too.

Most years, I think Elder is a bit more realistic to be competitive with if the team is up, like they will be in 25.

It would take an all time team for Cov Cath to beat up on any of those three with the number of students and quality of coaching they have.

Cincy has plenty of programs for what you mention, as does just about every major city.  The issue is, it doesn't prevent crime.  Criminals do criminal things and don't care about those types of programs.
