Jumper_Dad Posted January 1 Posted January 1 About 3:15 this morning a driver intentionally drove a truck at a high rate of speed into a crowed on New Orleans' Bourbon Street. Reports are of between 10-13 killed at this point and over 30 injured. Upon stopping, the driver shot two New Orleans Police Officers and was killed by return fire from Police. The truck clearly has Texas tags but no name has been released yet. Police called it a Terrorist Attack and mentioned possible pipe bombs being found. The FBI says it's not a Terrorist Attack. Either way prayers for all of those injured and involved in this horrible incident. 1
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 FBI now confirming they will investigate this as a Terrorist Event.
Voice of Reason Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Prayers to all the victims and families directly impacted by this crime. I will not jump to conclusions nor speculate on anything here until we have more FACTS.
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Driver has been identified, I'd expect background info to come out soon. His name is Shamsud Din Jabbar. Bomb Squads have used a controlled explosion to detonate at least one suspected pipe-bomb or similar device.
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Had stolen weapons on him. Authorities actively looking for as many as four other suspects.

TheDeuce Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I’ve been to New Orleans and been on Bourbon Street. The fact that there is any way someone can drive onto Bourbon Street like this is criminal and gross negligence on the part of the City of New Orleans. 2

Agreed, there is no way access should be possible. I too was shocked to see how accessible the entire French Quarter was, especially Bourbon Street. NYC uses dump trucks filled with sand to block all the streets around Time Square or other big events. 1

Place emergency vehicles inside a perimeter, and beyond that it should be literally impossible to get a vehicle anywhere near people down there. 1
theguru Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Some of the preliminary reports say the barricades were "temporary/subpar" and due for replacement.

All I can say there is when I had a real job, New Orleans was often used as a problematic example. 1
theguru Posted January 1 Posted January 1 From multiple news reports and specifically from wlwt.com: The FBI said an Islamic State group flag was recovered in the vehicle used in the attack, along with a handgun and an AR-style rifle. A potential improvised explosive device was located in the vehicle and other potential explosive devices were also located in the French Quarter, according to the FBI. 1
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 So a Cybertruck exploded at the front doors of a famous Las Vegas building this morning. First reports were possible defective vehicle. Video of explosion is on X. Police looking at explosion to see if this was another possible attack of some sort or just a coincidence that it happened right after New Orleans.

Sounds like there are metal pole barriers that can go up and down that were being repaired as part of the security package for the Super Bowl. They had stopped working because of beads and other items that had fallen into them. 1
ChickenWyngz Posted January 1 Posted January 1 It’s a shame all the craziness in our world. After reading through this, I know it’s a much smaller scale, but what’s in place to keep this from happening in Cincy’s Dora section or during on the Bengals tailgates at the banks? I remember thinking before one game that would be an awful spot for something like this to happen. 1
