January 31, 200719 yr Author Four different Bears were arrested. They are the third seed in the convict playoffs. The Bears went quite a bit bigger on the level of arrest scale...
January 31, 200719 yr The moral of the story? We need to learn how to win games with our players getting arrested, because it sure doesn't seem like it's going to stop. Maybe the Chargers can teach us.
January 31, 200719 yr It seems that this is a very popular thing to do in the NFL. I guess they are trying to keep up with the reputation of the NBA players. Professional sports is in dire need of a Character makeover and it needs to happen very soon.

The NBA gets a bad reputation for some reason when the NFL is worse.
January 31, 200719 yr They have all year. When you're 14-2 and a #1 seed people are talking about the positive... :sssh: :sssh:
January 31, 200719 yr Like the Bears... http://www.sportsline.com/columns/story/9963677 The Bears had an easier road to the playoffs. It seems to me that teams with multiple guys arrested have multiple guys who are very weak mentally. Those teams tend to fall apart when the competition is tough. The Bears will find that out. Just look at the Bengals as exhibit A. They have more talent that 95% of the teams in the league...and they led the league in arrests. Everyone knows how little mental errors beat them down the stretch. That doesn't explain everything, but it is a good start.
January 31, 200719 yr Eventually, there's going to be some pretty good prison teams. NBA does get some bad rap. If the current trend keeps going, my above statement will come true. NFL, NBA, MLB, and so on, needs to take a look at this problem. It's more prevelent in the NFL, right now, and somewhere it's going to have to nipped.
January 31, 200719 yr The Bengals and Chargers seem to be having a hard time keeping their players out of handcuffs
February 1, 200719 yr I bet the NFL's league office is loving this! The Bengals, the Chargers, the Tank Johnson saga, Michael Vick w/possible marijuana--later discreditied, and the death of Darrent Williams! It has to be a PR guys dream!

That doesn't explain everything, but it is a good start. The arrests mean absolutely NOTHING! Henry and O'Neal were the only arrests during the season of players who had significant contributions; that is the reason the Bengals went 8-8??????? How about 3 differnt MLB, no pass rush to speak of, weak CB's, a Safety coming off a year off and another injured part of the year. How about a QB coming off a shredded knee? Let's quit these overgeneralizations and the popular "fan and media speak" and look at the real reasons the Bengals were unsuccessful. According to whom are the Bengals 95% more talented???????? With a healthy Carson Palmer, maybe on offense; defense too young, too new, and very little continuity since Marvin has been here- not a chance are they more talented than 95% of the NFL teams. The Bears and Chargers are living proof that the off the field junk, with a good coach, means nothing. The Chargers losing????? McRee's fumble, 1st year starting QB, Drayton Florence penalty on 4th down- that is why they lost. Let's get real and talk some facts!
