UK in danger of losing their last 4 star player to another school?

Featured Replies

Per Rivals...

"I really have a lot of interest in Georgia," said Stafford. "I have been following them for a long time and I was even liking them before I started playing football as a kid. I am thinking about them a lot right now."

The Dawgs Recruiting Coordinator visited Stafford late last week.

"Coach Rodney Garner came to my house last Thursday and talked to with me and my family," he said. "We just talked about what I need to do academically, how Georgia needs me, and things like that. He talked to me about an academic plan if things didn't work out for me. The visit went good."

This 6-foot-3, 270-pound athletic defensive lineman was thinking about visiting Auburn and Georgia before signing day, but he is now only thinking about the Dawgs.

"I am not sure yet if I will visit Georgia next weekend or not, but I probably will. I am not going to visit Auburn, but I am really thinking about visiting Georgia."

Georgia is the only school still in the race giving Kentucky competition.

"It is just those two," Stafford said. "I am still committed to Kentucky, but I am really thinking about Georgia."

How solid is Stafford to the University of Kentucky?

"I would say I am about 60-percent Kentucky and 40-percent Georgia right now," he said. "It is pretty close."

The visit to Georgia could be the difference.

"If I visit Georgia next weekend and they show me that I can fit in better than Kentucky, then they have a real shot. If I feel UGA is the better place for me, then I could go there. They are close to home, they were my favorite school growing up, and I am really thinking about them a lot right now," Stafford said.

^Sounds like he's probably gone to me...

Ouch...I really thought that it was a disappointing recruiting season...UK caught some bad breaks but it is still less than desreable IMO.

Stafford has already begun the enrollment process for Hargrave Military. He will be prepping.

This will drop UK to 12th in the conference. They were 11th but if this kid doesn't sign it will make UK the only school in the SEC without a single 4 star.

That hurts, but this staff has been pretty good at developing players.

I figured as much when I read the UGA coach was preparing an academic plan.

UK hosted a 4-star receiver from Nashville this weekend. 6'6 220 4.5-4.6 speed. Woodson was his host and supposedly it went very well. He started getting more interested in UK when he saw them light it up in the bowl game in Nasvhille.

I would say overall it was a somewhat disappointing recruiting season.

However, the bowl victory should help pay dividends going into the next class.

There is still some time to pull a few surprises.

UK had a lot returning particularly of the sophomores and juniors, so there was not a lot of early playing time available.

We shall see how this unfolds.

Even if the Cats do get a letter of intent signed by Stafford next week they will have to land his signature again next year...Stafford has allready begun the enrollemnt process at Hargrave as LABS said and as UK fans saw with Demetrius Goode a signed letter intent for a player that is going to a prep school doesn't mean anything...it may give us a head start for next year with his recruitment but if things go good for Stafford at Hargrave and it looks like he is going to be eligible to sign and play with a D1 school in the 08 class then the Cats will have to beat out more SEC powers than they did this year...I know that the SEC powers recruited Stafford this year but everyone who was recruiting him knew that there was a very small chance that he would qualify so I doubt they recruited him as hard as they would have had he allready qualified for the 07 class...The Cats must continue to show improvement again next year and go bowling again to sign Stafford next year...they do that and we will be one of his favorites and more than likely land his signature for the 08 class but if the Cats don't go bowling next year then I don't like our chances of signing Stafford...

I am kind of disappointed in this class...I think we got some good prospects in this class that will be good players for the Cats in a few years, though losing Boyd and Keye was tough. This staff has proved that they have a good eye for talent and have got some nice under the radar recruits at UK and I think there are some playes in this class that will prove to be much better than the ranking that Rivals has given to them...players such as McCord, Lafenski, T. Smith, Glenn, Bailey, Durham, Wilson, Sneed, Lentz, A. Thomas, and Winchell are all 2-star players on rivals that I think have potential to be solid players for the Cats down the road...The only difference in this class compared to the other classes that Brooks and his staff have brought in at UK is that I expect most if not almost all the recruits to redshirt, besides the JUCO O-Lineman Winchell and Betts...I think both of these 2 will play next year and they may play major roles.

I really did think with the offense's success, and the chance at early playing time, for an improving team, would be supremely attractive to prospects.....Someone dropped the ball in this recruiting season. If it's a one year hiccup, there will be no problem, but they can not afford another poor recruiting class next season, especially not in the SEC.

Which positions would get a chance to play early? Kentucky is beginning to build depth and should only lose 7 players from this year.

UK has been successful with the Lagrange/Lexington connection but if you are good and you live in UGA this shouldn't be a suprise.
