Are you being flippant or do you honestly believe that? I know you've posted it ump-teen times in this thread, but I can't tell if you're just being funny or if that is how you truly feel? :D

Yes, he truly feels that.

Okay, it's been a while since I checked up on this thread, and my position has not changed.

Allow me to compare golf with foosball. Because unlike golf, I LOVE foosball. But foosball is a GAME, not a SPORT. If you play long enough, you can even break a sweat in foosball. Foosball comes naturally to me, but since I beat the heck out of most people I play, I think it's safe to say that it's not EASY (for them at least). The fundamentals are, but it takes some practice. It's still a GAME.

Now, to compare golf to something that I like even LESS than golf- Dance Dance Revolution. It's a videogame that basically has a machine tell you which of four square pads to step on. I have watched some ridiculously SICK people play this game at maybe 400 steps a minute (I don't know if that's literal or not, but either way, these guys are FAST). It's not easy. I still wouldn't call DDR a sport.

For the record, I have not once declared golf to be easy. I just see it as a game. I see golfers as golfers, not athletes (not to say they aren't in very good physical shape... I'm sure Tiger Woods could beat the heck out of some professional athletes).

Foosball is mimicked Soccer. It's like playing Tiger Woods on XBox or Play Station. EA Sports doesn't make a Foosball game do they? Where exactly are these comparisons????????? I saw no valid points in your post. Just an opinion with no basis other than you don't like it.......

I wonder if any of you who thinks golf is not is not a sport has ever played competitive golf? It IS a sport and one of the most difficult sports and one of the most wonderful for the following reasons:

1) If you are playing badly, you must finish your round. You can't ask for a sub and you have no teammate to make up for your bad shots.

2) You must act like a gentleman or a lady at all times. Bad sportsmanship makes you look like an idiot and is not tolerated. No matter how horroble you are playing, you have to be nice for for at least four hours while you are dying inside. Talk about self control!!

3) Thre are SO many different shots and situations to master and so many decisions to make with no coach telling you what to do and no one to balme if you make the wrong decision.

4) The comment about caddies is incorrect. Yes, professional golfers have caddies carry thier clubs but high school and college golfers must carry or pull thier own bags. Those ATHLETES are often out on the course for 6 hour rounds in horrible conditions - heat, rain, etc. The comment about playing in only pretty weather is incorrect. Golf is only cancelled when there is lightning or when the rain is so extreme that the course will be damged by play.

5) Unlike professional football, basketball or baseball players, professional golfers only earn money by their actual performance in tournaments. Yes they may get some endorsements but htere is no multi-year contract to just show up for their tournaments. They must PERFORM to earn prize money and to get the priviledge to play in major events.

6) Golf is the only SPORT I have ever played, but I have a daughter who is very athletic and plays several sports at high levels (soccer, basketball, softball and golf). She says that by far, golf is the most challenging and most difficult SPORT, requiring the most practice she plays.

I promised myself I would never post anything on these forums but the suggestion that golf is not a sport has me very riled up!!!

Actually, the fact that I don't like it (and really, my biggest beef is that back when I watched tv, I didn't have cable, and they'd be showing golf on half the channels... I don't care what anyone thinks about it, watching golf on television is the most boring thing in the world to me) has nothing to do with me basis for it not being a sport in my eyes.

My comparisons were simply this: I see golf as belonging in the same category as foosball and DDR- games, not sports. As far as golf videogames go, it's totally understandable that they'd make a videogame based off of it. They make bowling games, too, but would you call bowling a sport? If you would, that's fine and dandy, I just disagree.

Well, some people might think basketball, baseball, and etc. are boring, does that not make them a sport? Just because you have something against it, don't mean it's not a sport!

Goodness, I was just pointing that out as the reason why I didn't LIKE it... nowhere have I said "I think golf is boring, and BECAUSE OF THAT I think it is not a sport." Just like I never said it wasn't challenging.

I also have NOT stated that:

Only old people play golf

Only rich people play golf

Only dumb people play golf

Only boring people play golf

..I figured I should get those out of the way before somebody accuses me of saying those things, too.

Anyway, I'm done getting people all nice and annoyed in this thread. Sorry, fellas, I didn't mean to raise anyone's blood pressure.

I'll even comprimise. I'll join the "golf is a sport" side, so long as EVERYONE agrees with me that NASCAR is in fact NOT a sport, and racecar drivers, while physically tough, are NOT to be considered 'athletes', but simply 'racecar drivers'. :D

ummmmmm......nevermind

Okay....I guess repeating this phrase over and over makes it true!:D

You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree. If you ever try to play golf you'll understand. I've come in so tired and worn out from a day on the course too many times (even when I was young and in shape) to say it's not a sport.

So the following are not sports?

Gymnastics

Swimming

Diving

Ice Skating

Surfing

Track and Field especially the sprints and field events

Gymnastics = Physical training is paramount, endurance, strength.

I don't like the fact that it is judged and not won. NOONE should say that GOLF is harder then the rings or pummel horse. :p

Swimming = Physical training, strength, endurance. Plus its a race. You actually get to beat people by being faster.

Diving = NOT a sport. Hobby. You are judged. You don't necessarily BEAT your opponents. Its not timed. Its not a race. You should be in shape..but you don't have to build your endurance. You don't break a sweat or run out of breath. Fat people don't win diving unless it is the belly flop

Ice Skating = NOT a Sport. Entertainment...like a circus clown juggling. You can't WIN. You are judged. It is a matter of opinion who wins, like cheerleading.

Surfing = Not a sport. A hobby. You can't WIN. You are judged like ice skating.

Track and Field = Taining, endurance, physical ability. You race other people.

So..is Horseshoes a sport with TRUE athletes?

What about Darts or Pool?

How about championship PUTT PUTT.

Everything can't be a sport. Some things have to be games & hobbies.

At least in Golf you win and aren't judged.

Golf just lacks LOTS of SPORT attributes..training, endurance, physical ability, coaching, strategy, defense.

Electronic Arts says it is a sport. :thumb:

If Electronic Arts jumped off of a cliff, would YOU then want to jump off of a cliff?

If Electronic Arts jumped off of a cliff, would YOU then want to jump off of a cliff?

If it meant no more EA Sports games. I'd strongly consider it.

Is that the best argument you have?
