Point on this that I thought of the other day.

People say hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do and that arguably is true. But if the baseball lands anywhere in an area that is some 350 to 400 feet in length and a couple of hundred feet in width, it is good.

For golf, that would be OB or wet or in some serious trouble. Golf you hit the ball about twice in length and have about a 20 -30 yard landing level. In golf, you have to hit the ball to CF EVERYTIME. Hit the ball to LF and you are in the woods. Hit the ball to RF and you are in OB.

I see golf and baseball as similar. With both sports you hit a ball with a stick, but also they are the WORST spectator sports ever invented. I LOVE to play baseball, but I can't even sit down and watch the World Series. I realize that with both the more you know, the more enjoyable it is.

I went with my friend one time to a golf match, and he would be telling me things like, (just trying to remember may not be correct situationally), "he's hitting off the back nine at an incline into the northwest wind so he should a 9-iron and try to chip it to the left."

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!

What a man has to love about golf is how it takes average out-of-shape joes and turns them into millionare house-hold-names. i don't think i have to mention names because everyone knows the MAIN gambler that I am talking about, hahahaha.

I played baseball and I realize that preparation, adjustments, and the mental side of the game are the more important in baseball than in any sport, (aside from golf.) What I believe makes baseball America's past-time is how easy, physically speaking, that baseball is. Parents can play in the backyard with their kids. Heck, there is a guy in my hometown that is approaching 70+ and he STILL goes out and throws around with some kids around the town!!! How many can do that with anything else.

I appreciate the chess-aspect of golf, but please don't come on here talking about how physically exhausting it is. (nobody has YET.)

So to FINALLY answer the question, yes, golf is a sport.

Walk Devou or Highland CC and tell me it's not exhausting. Walking in 90 degree temperatures for 5+ hours in the hot sun wears anyone out. Add hills.

Okay hahahaha, I knew someone would post like this eventually. Here is my reply to that.

Arena football in Florida around May/June

Outdoor track ANYTIME

Baseball in California, Florida, Central America...... See what I am getting at?

Grant it, people that are fat and lazy like me get killed walking around in 90 degree weather, but it can't compare to Caribbean baseball weather.

Baseball in the heat, unless you're a pitcher isn't as grueling as walking up and down hills in hot weather. I've done both and it doesn't compare. I've practiced football in pads in 90+ degree weather and that was harder, but arena league is in AC. I can play 7 games of softball in the middle of winner, but walking 18 anywhere kills me in that kind of heat.

I don't care what you call it; a sport, game or a reason to get out of the house while consuming beverages, the fact is I love it...:D

It probably does look kinda easy on TV, with caddies, etc. I'm guessing you dont know much about amateur golf where the players carry their own bags for 18 holes, make the decisions on their own, etc. Making an athletic move with the body to hit the ball, and being in the condition to where it works the best. You are right, its not physical at all...

:thumb: Also... some courses have rolling hills you climb with the clubs strapped on your back. Try walking Crooked Creek Golf Course, London, KY in 85 to 90+ degree weather.

I've done that when its about 75 or 80.

Yes - Golf is a sport... OK, if you don not think it is a sport, what is it????

Be descriptive in one word....

Touchy aren't we? I'm just trying to get a feel for this argument, because it's intriguing. I normally never bother trying to cite my sources, because I either don't care (I feel sorry that you do, and so much. Seeing that I'm one of 5 people that disagrees with you, how good will you feel if you win this argument, really?), or because I don't really need to.

I think golf is too slow-paced to be considered a sport.

Well, where does that place baseball? Some games are about as fast paced and exciting as watching grass grow.

Yeah...I've seen the Princeton offense run a few times!!

Golf is the most humbling sport on earth..the swing is a timing thing (just like the baseball swing) and it may vary from day to day..you have to THINK about every shot...and I know of few sports where hand-eye coordination are more important!!

Golf is probably the most 'thinking' sports of any sport. You have to decide what club to hit, which way the wind is blowing, how hard the wind is blowing, how to strike the ball off the many different turfs that you play on, whether to run the ball to the hole or chip it with a wedge and 'bite' it to stop at the hole, AND then....once you're on the green.... the fun really begins.

Yes it does..is the grain pushing away from the break...is the water on the opposite side of the break..how wet is the green..how DRY is the green...are you a stroke down with money on a 3 footer..and on and on..LOL..I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
