We have yet again another 1A Top Ten Showdown. This is also a huge district matchup as well. Newport comes into this matchup 4-1 on the season with its only loss to LLoyd Memorial 39-7. Newport Central Catholic comes into this matchup on a 3 game losing streak after starting the season 3-0. They also have a win over Lloyd Memorial in the first game of the season. 
 

Who wins this matchup? Does Newport Central Catholic breaking the 3 game losing skid? Does Newport Shock 1A with a huge win to put them in the drivers seat of the district?

So far, a tail of two seasons.  Three positive wins then three disappointing losses.  NCC is their own worst enemy.  Fumbles and untimely turnovers have spelled disaster. Time for NCC figure out how to protect the ball.  Get back to the basics and pound the ball.  Newport will be the next test. If NCC plays the way they have the last three games, they will lose to Newport.  Strap it up boys and get back to winning ways. 

I believe Newport Catholic wins without much trouble. Coach Wiggins has a good thing going with the Wildcats in his first season, but I think the Thoroughbreds win. I know NC fans are frustrated with the Raceland loss, but they are still top 4/5 clearly in my opinion and the rest are substantially below them for the rest of 1A. I know anything is possible, but going by how Lloyd beat Newport is a pretty solid indicator to me.

Is this game at Newport?

I am leaning towards a running clock NewCath win. 

After watching Newport get crushed by Lloyd I don't see any way Newport wins this game. 

NCC might have a three game losing streak but let’s be real…. They should not beat Conner or Campbell.  Yes, they probably should have beat Campbell but if they played Conner 10 times I am not sure they win any unless injuries come into play.  Raceland was really the only poor performance they have had.  I don’t think the Seniors on this team let the season slip away.  My guess is they run the tables on the rest of the regular season, get everyone healthy and have a good run into the playoffs where anything can happen.

While I think the Lloyd team that played NewCath was not exactly the same Lloyd team that beat Newport. I just don't see the Cats keeping this one very close.

Dominant.

I think NewCath has come back down from the early season success and I think Newport has continued to improve each week under Coach Wiggins. While I think ultimately NewCath gets the running clock, I think Newport makes a game of it for a while before NCC finally pulls away in the second half.

That sounds about right, I believe it was sometime in the late 90’s.
