Completely uncompetitive game.

Beechwood’s aggregate score in District play last season was 273-3. Looks like more of the same in 2024.

And it will continue as long as their district remains as it is. Other districts clearly have this issue too.

I would like to see Beechwood move up into a larger class of play OR at least not have as many district teams they have to play.  Yes, it would be real nice to have an opportunity to play a few larger classes for another week or two than go through this type of play, for both teams.

KHSAA really needs to step up and figure this out OR at least get people who sit on a Board that get it and do something about it.

Moving up in class means no more state championships and I think the district gets bigger next year, ugh.

I am going to give you two views on this game.

1. Yes, totally non competitive. Perhaps the most one sided game I have seen. After 4 offensive plays, Beechwood led 35-0 and had a running clock - in the first quarter (Beechwood also ran the opening kickoff back for a score). Gallatin County had negative yardage gained in the first half, and maybe for the game. That's with Beechwood playing their JV starting in the second quarter. So if all you care about is a competitive football game, you hated this game and can carry on a huge rant on it.

2. I have to give credit to Gallatin County and Beechwood. Gallatin County's team played hard the whole game. They showed great attitude and effort despite the score. There was sportsmanship on display by both teams throughout the game - helping opponents up; handshakes; slap hands; pats on the back for each other. When Gallatin County made a good play, genuine enthusiasm and excitement. If I lived in Gallatin County, I would be happy to have my son play for that coach and his staff. I think those Gallatin County players are thankful for the experience. They showed the same effort, teamwork and brotherhood that we all want to see out of our teams and players. It isn't all about the scoreboard. It is also about the experience and learning. I think we all can learn from how Gallatin County handled themselves today.

Maybe NOT as many State Champs, but “No More State Champs” come on.  Maybe a few years here and there.

The way things are going at Beechwood I am not sure there are going to be anymore state championships in 2A.  They better win it this year...

Thanks for sharing that VoR, I am glad to hear Gallatin County is so professional, especially considering what they were up against today.

As long as the there are districts built on geography and school size, with mandates to play all the teams within your district, this issue will continue to exist. And whether you do districts, conference or whatever type of alignment you choose, you will continue to have these types of less competitive matchups.

With RPI (and hopefully better in the future) there is zero need for any districts, conferences, or mandates. 

Let’s hope when Beechwood is fully healthy across the board they completely get it together and win a 2A State Championship.  But that’s going to be really hard to do playing just 1 or 2 quarters of a game over the next month and half until 3rd round of playoffs.

Thank you. These types of games exist everywhere, every state, every district, every system, EVERY SPORT. And anyone who thinks these games didn't happen 50 years ago when there were 4 classes needs to check the history books.

Very valid point.  Bracken County might be good enough defensively to dodge the running clock.

Luke Erdman played today for Beechwood. He scored two TD's.
