Central 28 Bullitt East 14

Central is just tough! You’re ALWAYS in a dogfight when you play them.

Congrats to Central on the win.  They seemed ready for the game a little more than the Chargers did in the first quarter.  BE settled down and it was neck and neck for the rest of the game.  BE had a really tough time running the ball and that ended up being the difference in the game I think.  Cortez Stone is Cortez Stone and is going to make some big plays and that's what he did early in the game.  Central scored on a hb pass, on 3 and goal from the 14 with 6 minutes to go in the game.  The Bullitt East defense played pretty well with the exception of about 5 or 6 plays but credit Central for because they always play hard.  Bullitt East has to get more production out of their run game if they expect to compete with the best teams on their schedule the rest of the year.  Central honored Coach Scroggins before the game and that was pretty cool to see.  He certainly impacted a lot of lives during his time at Central !

Another blow for 6A. Yikes!

Credit to @Unrivaled97, who had a better read on this game than anyone. Central rushed for nearly 300 yards after being held to 86 last year.

Central is tough year in and year out. Certainly within their own classification and often vs 5A and 6A schools. BE on the other hand had the one great year recently and since then has returned to their more normal form….. not able to compete  vs the top 6A peer schools such as Male, St X, FD, Trinity, Manual, etc

You get some right and you get some wrong.  I would have happily been ok with being wrong on this one.  BE has a decent DL this year, but they are young and many are playing meaningful varsity snaps for the 1st time.  They will continue to improve as the season goes, but the group they had last year, when healthy, was as good as anybody and that's why they won that game last year.  The DL group last year had 40 tackles, 4 TFL & 4 sacks in the game against Central compared to 19 tackles, 2.5 TFL & 0 sacks this year.

I will say this, I've seen North Hardin play this year and although they did turn the ball over against CAL, it wasn't nearly as often as they are accustomed to doing.  Plus, even though the score was 49-0, I didn't see North Hardin self-implode the way they have in the past.  Maybe this group is a little different.  Anyway, I think this North Hardin team will give the Chargers a run for their money and could pull the upset if the Chargers don't get over the Central loss quickly.  Josiah Hope is an absolute stud and I was pleasantly surprised at how well he moves for how big he is.  He will single handedly give the Chargers problems Friday.  It's homecoming for the Chargers and sometimes high school kids can let their attention and focus drift with events like that.

This is a very telling result for me.

I mentioned when Belfry played GRC that the expectation for a 3A team who wants to be in the mix is they can play a middle of the pack 6A team and compete to the final whistle. If a 3A team beats a middle of the pack 6A team usually it translates that they are going to be firmly in the title race.

Bullitt East is more than a middle of the pack 6A team. They are a legitimate Top 10 caliber team. For Central to beat them by 2 TD's tells me that Central should definitely be short listed with CAL when talking about the 3A frontrunners and in a class above the rest of the field.

The score is a little misleading.  The score was 14-13 BE with about 6 and a half minutes to play.  BE after giving up two big plays early, shut down Central for the most part in the second half.  East had 3rd and goal in the 3rd qtr and through a nice pass right into the chest of one of our best receivers in the end zone and he just dropped it.  Ended up attempting a fg and was just a hair left.  Would have made it either 21-13 or 17-13 starting the 4th.  Central then had 3rd and goal from the East 14 and Coach Dantzler made an outstanding call, a hb pass. Pitched to Stone, who you have to gang tackle and then he stops and throws it right over the defense.  It was a GREAT call.  BE then had to punt with 3 minutes left and running out of time, they started sending everyone to get a stop, turn over, whatever.  That's when Stone busted another one.  When you start gambling like that, it's easy to happen.  The last td didn't bother me.  If you lose it doesn't matter if you lose by 14 or 1.  They were trying to get the ball back to try to even the game up.  My point is, it was a very close game.  I understand your post, Central plays the schedule they do to prepare for the 3A playoffs and it works quite often.  They absolutely deserved to win the game.  But it was a pretty close game.

Central also played undefeated La Salle (OH) to 1 pt game so including this result they are for sure in the title picture especially as long as Cortez Stone is in the lineup.
