Protocol is going to be up to the individual police agency and we need to hear from them.  With that said, I didn't like how things evolved on either side.

I agree.

1. If Hill rolls down his window, answers questions and respects the law, this is not news. If his team mates answer the police officers' questions and have a conversation, maybe the police would have had a conversation.

2. Police not only did nothing to de-escalate the situation, they escalated the situation. That is a non-police officer view. Is that what they are trained to do? It looks like a power trip to me. Too much. I could say the police showed a lack of respect also. Let there be no doubt - Hill was a disrespectful punk from the get go. When the officer lost his composure because Hill was being a disrespectful punk and went into power trip mode, everything was downhill from there. The question is how long do you let the punk be a punk before you treat him like a punk? 

 

If Hill and the club are smart they have him pay the fine and move on.  Nothing to be gained by arguing this.

I don't think a police officer ever has to treat anyone like a punk, it is your actions that matter.  When I trained young officers I always told them there is that line in the sand (meaning the law) and someone either steps over that line or they don't.  If they don't step over that line, be professional and give lawful commands.  If they do step over that line, be professional and arrest them. 

I would have to watch more video, read more about this, etc., but like bugatti mentioned the protocol seems off to me and you mix that with a lack of composure and boom.

For example, when the really big dude walked up in that video (I guess that was Campbell, I don't know) I would have given him a lawful order to disperse from this emergency situation, get in his vehicle and leave.  I probably would have given him a second warning and told him, if he doesn't get in his car and leave he will be arrested.  If he didn't comply after being both asked and told, he would definitely be arrested, lodged in jail, and his vehicle would be towed.   Multiple warnings don't cut it and get officers in the weeds, ask them, tell them, show them.

I think that ship has sailed, they are not only arguing it, they want officer heads to roll.

I do not like the Dolphins response. And I hear others saying similar things. They act like Hill did nothing wrong. He got pulled over. He did not comply with multiple officer requests. He started the whole slippery slope. His actions led to him being treated the way he was.

Right and ultimately I think it reflects poorly on the NFL.

Technically it looks like he was cited for Careless Driving.  Sounds like the Officer did Hill a solid there, sounds a lot more like Reckless Driving.

So assuming that is true, crazy high speed and very dangerous, Hill was way over the line driving his vehicle and his decorum when he was stopped was very poor.

Visual estimation is a joke and any half decent lawyer gets that dismissed.

Well, we disagree there.  You get trained on it and when you practice enough you normally estimate within 5mph or so.   And that may be why the officer went with Careless vs. Reckless, because it was a visual estimation.  

And I will have you and @Purple88 know that now I use those skills to estimate Formula 1 pit stop times.  I even surprise myself sometimes.

It is about respect. Hill not only showed no respect, he was purposely disrespectful. He didn't comply with requests multiple times. If I am a police officer, his actions created a safety concern and raised suspicions.

He immediately gave them his license. The only request he disregarded was rolling the window BACK down.
