Jumper_Dad Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Florida State oozes talent but Tech just fought harder all day. GT Coach is now 5-0 against ranked conference teams. 1
Jumper_Dad Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Did FSU think this was still a bowl game and have players opt out and others play disinterested ball? That was the excuse the last time we saw them. 1
Jumper_Dad Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Had no idea that 2 minute warnings had came to CFB. I think it was a good decision. 2
hrcarrier Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Didn’t think FSU would make the playoff but didn’t expect a loss to GT. 1
theguru Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 At this point I would say FSU would have to win out to make the playoffs.

In fact, they could lose every non-ACC game they play and still get a top 4 seed under this setup. If only that would have been true a year ago. 1

DragonFire Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I expected the offense to have struggles but it was disappointing watching the defensive line get bullied all day. Fantastic job by Georgia Tech to dominate the line of scrimmage, on both sides of the ball, really. I felt that FSU was trying to limit DJU’s exposure, and so didn’t open up the offense downfield until it was too late. He’s a bridge QB, that is apparent, but you have to at least attempt to make the other team respect that you are going to throw downfield. My hopes for FSU have shifted from 10-2 to now hoping for more of an 8-4 season, which I think is still attainable. But this stings.
DragonFire Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Just now, theguru said: Please enlighten me DF, thanks. Conference champions from the power conferences are guaranteed a top 4 seed in the new expanded playoff rules. If FSU won the ACC, they’ll auto-bid into the playoffs. Even if they lost every non conference game. Now, if we’re talking about them as an at-large option, which would mean they didn’t win the ACC, I’d say that the loss in an ACC title game is the only one they could sustain the rest of the way and hope for one of those. 1

Thank you. I am eating and watching football and working and thinking about this thread and then it came to me, they can win their conference. I did know that. Thanks again DF and I actually like this about the new setup. And that is, you could lose every non-conference game and make the playoffs as long as you still win your power conference. 1

That's close but not quite it. Power conferences are not guaranteed anything. The top 5 ranked conference champions get in automatically. There is a world where a 4 loss ACC Champ FSU could be ranked behind SEC Champ, BIG 10 Champ, Big XII Champ, Mountain West Champ (Boise St) and Conference USA Champ (Liberty). In which case they would not make it in. Now I know that's a long shot, but it could happen to any Power 4 Champ if you have a couple undefeated teams from non-Power 4 conferences. 1 1
16thBBall Fan Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I guess they are still upset about not getting in the playoffs last year. I agree with @DragonFirethis won’t keep them from getting in the playoffs but my bigger concern is how good really is Georgia Tech? They finished last year at 6-6 in a below average ACC. I think even with 12 teams the best the ACC will do is in my opinion is 2 teams. So is Georgia Tech better than Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Louisville and NC State.
