Colonels_Wear_Blue
Here is a look at how the last three weeks of the 2A football season played out last year. So now that we're just under 3 weeks away from the 2024 football season kicking off, what are you thinking in terms of preseason rankings for 2A? Have any of these teams dropped out of the picture for the beginning of this season? Are any of the quarterfinalists or semifinalists looking more like finalists this season? Or vice versa? What about teams like Breathitt County, Murray, Crittenden County, and Metcalfe County...do you see them making it any deeper of a playoff run than they did last year? Here are this year's team threads that have been started from among the teams that made last year's 2A quarterfinalists: 2024 Mayfield Cardinals 2024 Owensboro Catholic Aces 2024 Beechwood Tigers 2024 Somerset Briar Jumpers 2024 Lexington Christian Academy Eagles 2024 Shelby Valley Wildcats 2024 Green County Dragons
Cousin Chris
Same 4 that had a chance to win the championship last season. Beechwood, OC, Mayfield and LCA in that order. LCA and Mayfield lost a lot especially key contributors. Beechwood has all their skill players back, 4 starting OL/DL back and a 6’4” 270 lb transfer lineman who started at Moeller last year. Based on that I have to say Beechwood is the team to beat in 2A. OC has the Atwell kid at QB who is an absolute stud so you can’t count them out. On any given day any one of these 4 teams could win the state championship.
snakesnot_2000
This is how I see it. I believe that Beechwood is the most complete team with Mayfield being second. I think by the end of the year Mayfield will give Beechwood a great matchup. I''d put OC third with LCA 4th. Mayfield will counteract the big lineman from Moeller with Tre Jackson a 6'3" 265 defensive lineman, who is a stud. Mayfield has young players but very good players.
GBR
I can't speak for LCA, but Mayfield graduated SOME, but not ALOT. We are going to be really good this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Yes, we have some positions that we will have to figure out, but that is not anything new to us. It’s not going to be a good thing if you have to travel to play Mayfield at War Memorial. Especially if you are LCA. 😁

Lion pride 89
I would probably switch LCA and Somerset. LCA lost a lot last year Somerset returns A lot it will be hard to replace Kam Hughes but his brother Kris will be a junior had 732 yds rushing and 515 receiving as a sophomore he is a big back and should fill the hole nicely. Their defense it going to be stout their OL and DL are pretty much intact from last season. Combine that with some really good freshman and sophomores by seasons end I can see them with a similar season as last year maybe with a couple more wins but state semifinals again.
