Why doesn't Mason County host a Classic, like Scott County?

Featured Replies

And I'm talking about a Classic along those lines, not the MCIT. In fact the MCIT should be THAT classic, forget the local A teams that never have a chance and are only there for monetary reasons(I'm assuming). Have in-state powers and Oak Hill or others along those lines. Have wondered why this hasn't happened for years. OJ Mayo and Patrick Patterson should have played in The Fieldhouse at least once. Have it either at the start of the season or the first week of February. This area is too big and the Fieldhouse too nice for this not to have already happened by now. Is there something that we don't know?

I am sure Toyota pumps a lot into the Scott Co. tourney, after all is called the Toyota Classic. Is there that support from a Mason Co. business?

As far as I know, KY teams cannot play a team like Oak Hill anymore.

They tried that before with the River City Classic and the fans did not come out to the games and support it.

They had teams in from Pennsylvania & Tennessee. Clark County, Christian County, Dunbar and Doss were among the Kentucky teams in this event.

Kentucky basketball teams are no longer allowed by the rules of the KHSAA to play Oak Hill or other schools that do not follow the rules of the National Federation.

I suspect those type classics are alot of work, very costly, and don't have tons of fan support because they typically involve teams a good distance away. The 5th-3rd now involves all KY teams and its really not all that well supported until the semifinals.

I believe the exact reason is you can only play schools that are members of their states association. Which hurts KY schools.

Schools participating in the 2004 River City Classic:

Haywood TN, Campbell County, Clark County, Hintfield PA, Dunbar, Christian County, Doss, Mason County.

They also had the Royal Showcase years before the River City Classic.

Wasn't some of those games held at odd times, like right after school or Saturday morning or early afternoon. Seems like I saw Lofton dump about 50 at 2 in the afternoon against Doss I believe.

A major sponsor is a must. 5th 3rd Bank, Toyota Manufacturing, etc.

Because Mason County doesnt have a car plant backing us. There are no major buisnesses in the area so sponsorship is hard to find. Spectrum Graphics and U.S bank do a good job but many others have little or no support.

They could call it The Mitsubishi Classic at Mason County maybe they would be interested in sponsoring a Classic never hurts to ask a few local buisnesses. Maysville also has a Lowes opening soon . Maybe some of the larger companies in the area would go together to sponsor something . Afterall these companies need some write offs.

Personally I kinda hope Movie Gallery and Super 8 get involved.

The Super Movie Gallery 8 basketball extravaganza! : )

On a serious note, yes it would be a lot of fun to have some of the state's top teams or top teams from neighboring states come in and have an 8 team tournament held right here in Maysville.

After Lofton makes it to the NBA I'm sure he'll be glad to sponsor it.:ylsuper:

They were held during the Christmas break on a Friday and Saturday.
