Just for one year? The KHSAA site has Barth as coach in 2009 and no one listed for 2008.

I know Coach Barth has grade school age kids still and probably wants to spend some more time at their events.

Correct. Woody McMillen was the first head coach for the program, but only for the first year. Then I believe he had to step down for either health or family reasons after that first year. Then Barth took over for him starting in year two. Which now Barth is back with Woody at Ludlow.

I would like to see Gary Pence from Cooper finally get his opportunity (assuming he's interested). He has been coaching under Borchers at Cooper for I think around 10 years now. He was the Freshman head coach at Cooper for a while - recently moved to Varsity coaching QBs and as the Special Teams Coordinator. I know he was a finalist for the Ludlow job prior to Woody getting hired. He also has a degree in Special Education. Could have the opportunity to lock an in-school coach for a long time with Pence!

I agree. If Walton looks to bring in someone from outside the program to get a new perspective that he would be a good hire if he applies for it. A good young coach with a lot of experience that has worked with some very good coaches in NKY, as I believe he was also at Conner before coming to Cooper.

I agree on Coach Pence.  I know him and think very highly of him.

Couldn't agree more! Coach Pence has certainly put in the work from ground up.  Great freshman head coach, varsity QB coach, ST coordinator and now is working on the defensive side of the ball as well this season under Coach Borchers as well as being surrounded by a well established experienced coaching staff for years.  Great candidate if Coach Pence is interested and stil young and won't be going anywere for a very long time.

I imagine we’ll see some movement here sooner rather than later as Walton just hired their new AD.

No way you decide in late May to quit being a head coach to be an assistant to cut down on your commute, especially when you have held that position for such a long time.

I'm not insinuating anything nefarious behind the move, but there is definitely more to it than that.  I have a really, really hard time believing any head coach would make this decision so late on their own unless offered a college job.

With Barth, this is true. He just wanted a shorter commute and the job opened at Ludlow. Barth is a good guy and there’s nothing behind the scenes here. Plus he wanted to dedicate more time to his kids. Gotta respect him for making a tough decision.

I cannot respect a coach who decides to hang his team amd kids out to dry this late in the game.  This is a decision you make in November or December, not end of May.

No coach decides after 6, months of working with your team in the weightroom, preaching to kids about dedication and hard work and then leaving to save a few bucks in gas.

Great look ... you can't respect a man who has put other kids before his own family for over 15 years due to timing?
Not sure what I can say to something like this.

It does speak to why coaches are leaving the profession at break neck speed. Coach has spent more time with those kids than an average parent does with their own. I am sure his kids and family will get a huge laugh out of your lack of respect.

That's a bad take. He wasn't looking for a job. He was planning on coaching this coming season. But an ideal situation unexpectedly came up vocationally and he weighed the pros and cons with his family and decided in the best interests of his family knowing full well it wasn't ideal for the WV kids. That's why he was completely honest with his players and he did it twice. Once with the seniors before a senior field trip and once with the rest of the team later in the day. He's saving more than gas money. He's saving memories with his loved ones by making more time with his family which you can't put a price on. Why don't you ask the players how they feel instead of speaking for them.

Look, I completely understand wanting more time with your kids.  That's the reason I stopped coaching high school.  I completely get that.

But someone with his resume could get on at just about any school of his choice without there being an official opening.  And if this was on his mind, he should have resigned after the season so he could actually find something you are looking for and so the team (that you care about) isn't left in a completely terrible situation. That's how you should handle yourself as a professional and a man.

Again, there has to be more to this than he wanted to save on commute.  Maybe there's a disagreement with admin, athletic budget cuts, a health issue, something.

If not, why would any school trust that he wouldn't leave them high and dry again?
