Virginia Tech head coach Kenny Brooks has accepted Kentucky's offer to become its next women's basketball coach. He is expected to be one of the 10 highest paid coaches in the women's game.

Brooks has won more than 500 games in 22 seasons as a college coach, owning an overall record of 517-204 (.717).  Prior to taking over at Virginia Tech, he led James Madison for 14 seasons (2002-03 through 2015-16). During his time with the Dukes, Brooks went 337-122 (.734), earning six NCAA Tournament bids. James Madison won four Colonial Athletic Association (now known as the Coastal Athletic Association) regular-season championships and five conference tournament crowns during Brooks' tenure.

 

I don't really pay much attention or follow Women's basketball but seems like a strong hire by Barnhart.

I do and that is a solid hire. Be interesting to see if Schneer reconsiders her portal decision if she is able to do so.

This seems like a pretty good hire to me.

It appears that Kentucky could be landing two Virginia Tech players as well via Transfer Portal. One is a 6”5 center and the other was VT’s leading scorer. Both entered with a “do not contact me label”. 

Georgia Amoore would be a major addition, if she in fact follows the coach here.   She was much more effective when Liz Kitely was healthy, so any big presence in the middle would help.

 

Kentucky Women got two transfers from Virginia Tech. Georgia Amoore and an incoming 6’3 freshman. Still waiting on the decision from the 6’5 center.
