Fleming County 77 Boyd County 72

Featured Replies

Final from Flemingsburg. The Panthers (20-7) knock off state ranked and R16 #1 Boyd County (22-5).

All points for the Panthers in overtime came from the free throw line. Boyd got a three from Cole Hicks.

Points by quarter

        1Q  2Q  3Q  4Q   OT

FC - 21   14   17   17    8

BC - 19   18   22  10    3

If you hadn't noticed Fleming County, you should be now!

Go-o-o-o-llee!!   Buddy is flexing his Panther muscle as of late. Taking down the region favorites in two consecutive weeks is impressive. With Rowan pushing Ashland to overtime it seems we can throw the idea of a two horse race out the window. Let's see if this is for real or if it has just snapped the two giants from their late season slumber. Fun times!

That was win #399 in Buddy Biggs' career.  It also ran the home winning streak for the Panthers to 24.

The next opponent: Mason County.  Sometimes the storylines write themselves.

Fleming is making a case as the team to beat in the 16th

And one of those 24 straight home wins was over Mason County in early January.

It may still be a 2 horse race, but Fleming is now one of the horses!

Correction: The streak is now 25.  Will go for #26 Friday night vs. the Royals

Coach Biggs does a great job.

Talked to someone at the Lexington Catholic tournament who said he thought Fleming County was the best team in the 16th Region. Looks like 5-6 teams in the region have similar records. Would you agree that Fleming is the best or is there someone else?

I made the above post on January 7. Several others said that Fleming had good pieces, it just hadn't been put together yet. I looks like they are firing on all cylinders now.

I love Fleming and Buddy too, excellent coach, beating Ashland and Boyd in a 7 day span has to be extremely rare down through the years but let’s pump the brakes a little and remember BOTH of these wins were AT Fleming, a very tough place to play AND Fleming did lose at Rowan by 18 just about 10 days ago

Will have to beat them on back to back nights (unless they draw one of them in the 1st round)

Yes

AND 2 of the district CHAMPIONS are gonna draw either Boyd, Ashland, Rowan or Fleming in their first game!!
Congrats on winning the district guys, lol

I feel you but late January and early February losses to Montgomery and Rowan keep me from going all in.  It's easy to get motivated for Ashland and Boyd. I take nothing away from Fleming, but catching a favorite off guard at home on a weeknight is not the same as being at the top of the region and taking everyone's best shot every game. But hey, "to be the man you have to beat the man", and they did. Now let's see if they can do it in Morehead where they will take no one by surprise...and... with all the chatter going on about them they will have to shoulder a lot more pressure. I think it's at least a four horse race....
