January 22, 200719 yr Did Jones push Parcells out to keep TO or did Parcells make this decision on his own ????That 'ole saying, about the inmates running the asylum, might be accurate in this instance. Parcells is old school, where the coaches coach, yell, decides who plays and said "my way, or the highway"....nowadays, the authority is gone to GM's and Owners, plus salary often dictates who plays. Too many individuals in the Dallas camp, over the last 5-8 years.
January 22, 200719 yr Coughlin is on a VERY short leash to begin with, unless they a win superbowl next year, he will be gone. So if that happens, wouldn't be shocked at all to see Parcells end up back there.
January 22, 200719 yr I am not surprised he is leaving Dallas. It seemed all season his sideline facial expressions revealed a coach that was not happy to be on the sidelines. With all the crap he endured with Owens and Jerry I can fully understand how that could happen. He knew going in that the situation was bad but I don't think he realized that he could not control the things that were happpening. With all the circumstances surrounding the Cowboys I would want out as well.
January 22, 200719 yr What's interesting is that Parcells says he's retiring from football coaching; could be an outstanding front office man for a franchise. Can anyone else hear Bill Coward's phone ringing? PS This out of Alabama...Nich Saban has ZERO interest in the Cowboys HC vacancy. :thumb: I understand Bobby Petrino's willing to listen to any offers, though. Seriously though, it seemed pretty obvious to me as the season wore on that Parcells was wearing a "why did I come back, and why did I come back to this team?" look on his face all this year. Why anybody of his stature in the game would want to put up with lunatics like Jerry Jones and TO is beyond me.

Here is a dark horse candidate. Jimmy Johnson. Shouldn't it be about time for him to come out of his retirement?

Shouldn't it be about time for him to come out of his retirement? I can't see him going back to Dallas. I can see him returning to the coaching ranks, but in college. Seems Nebraska will be about through with Callahan by next year, and they're dying to return to national power status.
January 22, 200719 yr Where's Barry Switzer when you need him? Oh yeah, I fogot... he was Jones's pick for head coach just to prove that the Starboys could win without Johnson at the helm.

So if that happens, wouldn't be shocked at all to see Parcells end up back there. I seriously doubt the Giants would go that direction. I'd think they'd want some one who would be willing to stay more than a few years...and I don't see him wanting to be anywhere else more than 3-4 years.
January 22, 200719 yr He will be back with the Giants in one way or another... I don't see where...unless it's as a consultant.
January 22, 200719 yr I figured he was tired of the crap in Dallas. I think he is a good coach but I also think he's overrated somewhat. I'm not suprised at all. Chris Carter called it 3 months ago saying he is getting a reputation of turning his back on teams. There is rumor that Huston Nutt is a name that's being thrown around down there. I don't know if it's because they like to say "Nutt" or if it's because they really want him to be Jones pupett.
January 22, 200719 yr The team wrecker strikes again.     Im pretty sure T.O. was the most supportive Cowboy after the heartbreaking loss to the Seahawks. San Francisco, yes. Phili, yes. Dallas, no. So don't try and make something out of nothing, T.O. is not the reason Parcells is leaving Dallas, as much as I love Bill, he just wasn't getting it done, and he knew this and didn't want to risk losing any more cred. I liked Parcells, and he is one of the all-time greats, however, as a diehard Cowboys fan I can actually say with a straight face this doesn't really bother me. I will miss the way he conducted the team, and conducted himself with the media, however, 34-32 record, 0-2 in the playoffs....Not like we are losing anything great. With numbers like that I would much rather see T.O. come back and strap up then to see Parcells come back and lead the Boys' into another average season if something like that was to have boiled down. His offense was simple, and I think with all the talent to utilize on the offensive side, the Cowboys may have more to look forward to with a fresh face. I don't see this as a hit to the franchise, considering we all knew Parcells was in his last years. I see this as a positive for the future in that we can bring in a coach with hopefully a lot of longevity ahead of him in Big D.

Jones has always been very found of the college coach, and is the only person to have success with them. Not going to rule it out, but with the flops of Spurrier and Saban, I look for him to go another direction. The concept was new when he brought in Johnson, and luck found its way again in the form of Switzer via Oklahoma. Just don't look for Jones to try and go to the well another time, then again you never know.
