This goes directly to Adam, no?

I guess you could say I'm kind of a long time listener, first time caller here. I've been around Northern KY for a handful of decades now and spent time in a small handful of parishes and been involved at several schools in Kenton and Campbell counties, including Holy Cross.

Adam used to teach math at Holy Cross and moved over to the math department at Brossart a couple of years ago. I've recently had conversations with two experienced teachers at Holy Cross and they expressed a lot of frustration with the fact that Bruce is on the hiring committee. To be honest it sounds like they're pretty displeased with the apparent hiring committee on the whole. It seems that Holy Cross wants the new coach to work in the school, and with Bruce being on the hiring committee and son Adam having applied for the job, there's a perceived inherent bias built in towards Adam getting the job and rejoining the Holy Cross faculty. The teachers I've talked to felt like Adam really struggled as a teacher while he was at Holy Cross though, and additional to their concerns about his teaching, they feel that at best his coaching talents lie in coordinating and not necessarily as the man steering the ship.

My question would be, what would qualify Adam to be a HC? I'm not sure he has been an OC, DC or HC of any level. I would think they wouldn't want at least a little experience in one of those areas. Bruce had a large hand (no pun intended) in all facets of the game. So those are big shoes to fill.

Does the name Perrin mean anything to anyone? I’ve heard it, believe it came up in the Scott thread the last couple times. Don’t know too much about him.

Strictly Goodtimers chatter here, but apparently Derrick Barnes may have some influence in who they hire, and he’s “endorsed” Perrin.

Nelson Perrin III graduated from Scott in 2018 and coaches there, although I think he teaches in Covington schools.

I believe his father Nelson Perrin coached for a time at the middle middle school level, if memory serves. Nelson III is the oldest of three brothers: Nelson, Quincy and Malcolm. Nelson and Quincy were bigtime running backs at Scott. Malcolm is currently a sophomore OL/DL at Scott. He's a beefcake. Started off at New Cath his freshman year, where I believe he was a starter, and then transferred to Scott this past season.

Nelson played college ball at Thomas More, and Quincy started off in college at Kentucky Wesleyan and is currently playing at Georgetown.

Jr or Sr? Not sure that Sr would make that move with a son still at Scott who has already transferred once.

Jr or Sr didn’t come up in the discussion, I would have to assume the young buck.

So if Nelson Perrin III graduated in 2018, that puts him at about, what, 23 or 24 years old right now? Seems awfully young to be handed the proverbial keys for a football program.

Don’t disagree with you, which goes back to some of the good conversations in the NKY coaching carousel thread. Harder to find applicants, the bar being dropped for “good hires”,

But then again, Alex Shelton was a finalist for the Ludlow job last year and he was right around that same age, so maybe a young buck with a lot of time and energy to devout to the program and kids is what they need at Holy Cross.

Again, I don’t know which Perrin was being discussed, but wouldn’t shock me if it’s the one you are referring to. The only other name mentioned was Adam Kozerski, and two of the “old timers” down at Goodtimers were not pleased with even the mention of that name.

24, will turn 25 during the season. He’s got great interpersonal skills and kids love him. Hasn’t been a coordinator, but knows the game and is a hard worker. He’s going to be a head coach someday and if he can surround himself with the right guys, I could see him being successful even at a young age.

If the above rumor is true. I think it could be a sneaky good pick up. I have known NP-III for years. While he is young, he has alot of experience both on and off the field.

He was a great player and has been around (maybe not hands on) alot of coaching in his young tenure. Even as a player and after high school he was always helping others understand the nuances of the game.

I believe he is teaching at Holmes right now and coached at Scott this past season.

Count me as a huge fan!! And a big believer in this young man.

To not contradict my post from earlier about Adam K. While not the same sport. I do believe NP III has been a head freshman basketball coach for a few years. So he does have some experience.

I've met him a couple of times, and I have ZERO doubt that he'll be a head coach....and more than likely a really good one. My comment wasn't meant to imply anything to the contrary of that. It just feels like (to me, anyway) somebody his age could learn an awful lot through another year or two of experience without having the entire brunt of a football programs borne on their shoulders.

I guess stepping back and thinking about things from a different perspective, though, you wouldn't have the George Schneiders, the Philip Haywoods, the Owen Haucks, and the Lynn Rays in the state if there weren't people willing to try to identify the makings of a good head coach in a youngster and give him a start at it then and there.

I could see a scenario where maybe he gets the HC job and brings a veteran coach like Coach Moore back. That could be a great combo!! Giving him the vet in his corner and the program getting a youthful shot of energy.
