Danville Christian Academy 44 Boyle County 33

Thought Boyle looked better tonight than they did against Rockcastle.

Lots of athleticism on the floor tonight. Didn't think there was a ton of difference in the two teams other than these:

1) DCA made timely shots and Boyle did not. Boyle really struggled shooting in general.

2) Rim protection from Ayiei was huge. He probably had 8 blocks.

This roster struggling to score like they have, and only putting up 33 tonight, is truly amazing.

1 DCA’s offense got them open a lot more for better quality looks. Boyle’s shots were most always contested.
2. He was a difference maker, for sure. But Boyle made it easy for him on several of those blocks. When he slid over to help, Boyle usually didn’t dump or kick it but instead tried to shoot a layup on him. That’s not going to work on that guy!

Dut was the most athletic player on the court and it showed. He got to the rim anytime he wanted. I still think it will be Boyle and DCA in the 45th District Championship. Boyle will get a lot better and will start to hit shots.

They have no shooting.  The game is a skill game now.  DCA is a tough matchup for them because they take away paint score, and you need people to stretch the floor against them with the 3 PT shot.

Turner needs to get more shot opportunities for Boyle.  He's the only guy on the roster I would label as a "shooter".  The rest are just "takers".

Almost the exact same place that both teams were last year. Boyle with 2weeks practice not shooting well and DC with year round practice winning the first match up. Wait until the second game in Feb. before you crown or discredit either team. Remember what happened last year. See where the "takers" are then.

Obviously taking a shot at my comment.  Quisenberry, Brown and Bodner are not knockdown shooters.  They're driving guards, and always have been.  DCA has a 7 Footer that can limit driving scores, which is the strength of those 3 players.  I do believe Boyle Co. will continue to improve, but I would still want those guys taking jump shots instead of driving to score...

Oh, and DCA will be adding a second big as well that is bigger than the one they have now.  He may smother some layups off the backboard as well...

I trust my eyes because I've watched all these kids in our region play a ton of basketball, but I wanted to fact check just make sure it matches.  I went back and look at some shooting stats for the aforementioned players (By the way they are all quality basketball players and athletes).  As shooting the 3 PT shot goes from last season: Bodner 31% (9 for 29), Quisenberry 28% (27 for 96) and Brown @ Danville 26% (34 for 131).  Kinda what I figured.  I would much rather them shoot 3s than drive the paint for scores using their athleticism.

If those three shoot 41% from the floor on 2 pointers, they have about the same scoring efficiency shooting 2's and 3's.

If they shoot better than 41% on 2's, they should shoot more 2's and fewer 3's.

I understand where you’re coming from but DCA played them man the majority of the time. Given the athleticism you know that Boyle has, that should work in Boyle’s favor. Yes, DCA’s big is a difference maker in the lane but again, when you use your athleticism to get into the lane and he comes over to help, you’ve broken down their D. And he’s no longer weak side for any rebound. That should result in the potential for an assist, not a forced shot into the hands of a 7 footer.
