Carter County Schools is one step closer to consolidating East and West Carter High Schools

From what I hear there’s a distinct fan loyalty for both schools. A person told me it’s almost like there’s two different counties with Olive Hill on one side and Grayson on the other end, with an imaginary boundary in the middle. But this is usually the case with all consolidations and requires a few years to get everyone assimilated.

I just hope they don’t add Central to their school name. There seems to be a hundred Centrals around the state. Just keep it Carter County High School.

Absolutely.

When I started school at Morehead a half century ago, nearly everyone there identified with a county.  “I’m from Pike County”. “I’m from Breathitt County”.

Unless they were from Carter County. It was either East or West; Grayson or Olive Hill.  Nobody was from Carter County.   Not a soul.

It will be interesting to see if they’re going thru with it or just feasibility possibility. When I was in high school at Ashland rumors were going around of Ashland, Boyd Co and Fairview merging that was in early 80’s. Carter Co I think would possibly benefit from it in the long run.

It was like that at UK in the late eighties as well. Quite a change coming from NKY where nobody identified by county. High school yes, county no.
