I was actually pretty good friends with OJ a while back, during the rivalry. I remember playing pickup games with him, Dawson, the Thomas's and a couple of other people on just about a daily basis back during the summer of 01. Haven't talked to him in a couple of years, however.

Hopefully, the crowd at Rupp Arena will impress all of them, OJ included, even though he has already committed. Even though we don't need him because we have guards and I hear that his attitude isn't the greatest, it would be nice to show him on what he is missing out on.

When he made his official visit to Kentucky last year, heralded prospect Patrick Patterson received a 3D digital tour of the school's practice facility. His reaction? "It looked pretty cool."

 

Now with his Huntington (W.Va.) High team playing in Memorial Coliseum today, Patterson will see the real thing. The Joe Craft Center can only help UK's recruiting effort.

 

"Oh, it's a pretty big deal practice facility-wise," Patterson said yesterday. "That's where you get better."

 

Patterson gave UK's $30 million facility the edge over Florida's $10 million facility.

 

"Kentucky's got bigger gyms and a bigger weight room," he said. "I like weight rooms. That's where I get my body right for games."

 

Patterson, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is considered among the nation's top 15 prospects in the Class of 2007. His list of college choices remains UK, Florida, Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

 

"I'm pretty much uncertain," he said. "I'm not 100 percent sure."

 

When asked how close to 100 percent he is, Patterson said, "Really, I'm unsure. I'm trying to decide by March 3."

While he's working to improve his perimeter skills, Patterson described his game in blue-collar terms: "Unselfish." "Hard worker." "Get the job done." "Finish."

He hoped to show what he can contribute to Kentucky basketball.. That's exactly what I wanted to hear from this kid, that's a big statement from him. If he had to decide tomorrow, he would be a wildcat I believe.

You obviously havent watched OJ play....One of the few players in the country that averages over 8 assists per game and can still score over 30 a game. Most of OJ's points comes off of steals and fastbreaks.....

 

Once again...Simply amazing comment. Maybe you should had listened to Pattersons comments on TV after todays game. His first comment was how unselfish OJ was.

I really don't think Mayo is THAT player.. Yes, he knows he IS the show, so he does make sure he puts one on for the fans. However I believe he sincerely does want his teamates to excell, and even steal his spotlight from time to time. He's a big part of the reason that HHS will have 6 kids play D1 ball next season.

 

I do agree with you that we don't need another guard right now, but I honestly do not believe OJ is a selfish player at all. He's always looking to pass. In fact, I could see it becoming a problem for him at the next level at times. A lot of times he will drive the lane and once he is double/tripple teamed he leaves his feet, however he's usually not looking to shoot, he's looking to pass. It's about the only downfall to his game that I see.

You obviously don't know OJ becuase he is a very unselfish player and person! When have you ever heard him say anything selfish in an interview or anything? He gets a bad rep becuase of the people who clamped on to him, but he's a great kid!! How can you be selfish and avg 8 assist a game? and he was late because he was getting extra treatment on his pulled hamstring so again how is that selfish?
