8th Region Week 9 Review

Featured Replies

This is all true. But Grants loss to Owen was two days before the Oldham game . So should the loss in the early season be discounted? Both teams will get a chance to prove them selves. I hope to see Grant in the region but gonna have to beat a tough little Walton team that when they're hitting can beat anybody.

"Abbreviated," and still great work. Featured player and District seeding update, +/+. Thanks for all you do @Adrian Woj Burner.

  • What a reward for Spencer Co. locking up 1 seed...You get Collins, a team with a style of defense that can give your 3 PT shooting game fits!  Tough district!

LOL.....you mean WV "Bearcats", maybe?   ? (BTW, WELCOME to BGPreps!!!) CM

Nicely done, as always, AWB!!    I so hated to have to step down as the 8th Region reporter (due to circumstances beyond my control), but I'm thrilled that Guru found someone as knowledgeable and dedicated to the 8th Region as you!!   You do us all proud!

I generally like your rankings this week, but cannot shake the feeling that Woodford is under-ranked.    I have seen the Jackets play, and I don't think they've really played up to their potential yet, but I can't help feeling that this is one team I wouldn't want to face come tournament time.

The year has been full of surprises, and most of them good....

....the 8th overall has been much more competitive across-the-board than any of us - even incurable optimists like me - expected.

...Three of the four districts are VERY competitive.    The 29th is always very competitive because all 3 teams are Oldham County squads and every game is a backyard brawl.    But the 30th and 32nd are wildly loaded this year - some very good teams aren't going to make it to New Castle.    SK looks like a definite favorite in the 32nd....but in the 30th??    Anything could happen in the 30th.

....If you aren't attending games in the 30th this year, YOU NEED TO GO NOW.    There is a stunning array of talent in the region this year, and I am amazed almost every night by the performances.    Teagan Moore (Owen), Dylan Hammonds (Grant), Dallas Roberts (North Oldham), Max Green (Oldham County), Jasper Johnson (Woodford County) lead the pack, but it's going to be hard to figure who gets left out of the All-Region team this year with talented players like Camden Cox and Luke Erhardt (Spencer), Gabe Dynes and Travis Krohman (SK), Brax Ward (Owen), Wilcoxson (Trimble), Simmons and Goodin (Collins), Gutman, Dixon, and Krohman (W-V), Amburgey (Oldham County), Luke Anderson & Ian Higdon (North Oldham), Julian Miles (South), and on and on and on......lots of arguments to be made for a lot of talented young men.   (Yes, I KNOW I left some guys off that list....!!!)   This may be the most talented the region has looked, top to bottom, in many, many years.

Do yourself a favor and head out to your local HS gym.....

I'll be in Buckner this week....Oldham County vs. Collins (girl/boy DH) on Tuesday....and Oldham County vs. Simon Kenton on Friday.   OC vs Collins and OC vs SK should be dynamite games...

At this point I don't think some would change their mind. Whenever they have a good win it's always a fluke. And when they lose it's like I told you so. Even had one on here a month ago predict they wouldn't`t finish over five hundred.

The 500 prediction was over the last 9 games of regular season and opening district game.  It's still a realistic prediction.

Thank you CM! I can agree with Woodford Co., I mentioned in this week's review that they might have the best shot at knocking off the beast of the region, North Oldham. When I analyze each team for the weekly rankings my two main factors is team success and ability to win the region. When putting the two together, I couldn't think of a better spot to put them. There are definitely teams below them that have achieved more this season, however there are teams ahead of them that probably have a smaller chance of making a run in the postseason.

Every district mentioned above is LOADED with talent, but the 31st District will be really interesting to watch as well! Obviously Owen County is the clear favorite to win it (and I assume they will) but the battle for the 2nd spot in that district will be a BRAWL.

The all-region team this year will be very interesting, absolutely loaded with talent. I think everyone will have to take a look at multiple factors such as SOS, stats, surrounding talent on the team, and team success when casting their votes. It will be controversial either way, as there is simply not enough spots to honor every player that deserves the award!

These last couple weeks of the regular season and the postseason might be some of the best basketball  we have ever seen and some great conversations on 8th region basketball , and I sure am looking forward to it!

Lol, I thought the same thing. If I was the #1 seed, Collins would probably be the last team that I would want to see, let alone it being in the semifinals and not even the championship.

Absolutely brutal.

Spencer probably matches up best with Anderson - but there's no easy night in the 30th this year, regardless.

My predictions based on these seedings to advance to 8th region tournament.

29th Colonels, Mustangs

30th Yellowjackets, Titans

31st Rebels, GC Wildcats

32nd Pioneers, Braves

Bears, WV Wildcats gonna be left out.

The 29th is always fun, and I see it being the same way this year. Oldham County and South Oldham will be a phenomenal game!

The 30th is a 3-headed race between Spencer County, Collins, and Woodford County in my opinion (you could also throw in Anderson County) but if I had to choose two it would be these 2.

In the 31st, Owen County is undoubtedly getting a bid, I don't see anyone getting within 10-15 points until regional play. The 2nd bid is more of a wild card, and I think it will either be Trimble or Gallatin County. I believe Gallatin County is the better team, however it is on Trimble's home floor, and they play well at home.

The 32nd should for sure have SK unless a crazy upset happens, and the other spot is a toss up. Excited to see these two square off in a couple weeks.

Also, welcome to BGP! I hope you stay active and continue to interact with the write-ups!

I didn’t think about the 31st being at Trimble Co.  They beat Anderson county there, so like you said, they could beat Gallatin for sure.

South/OC was great last time.  Max Green and Amburgey played awesome.  I just don’t see Burnside going crazy again like he did last time though.

Thanks, I’ve been lurking for a while and it’s nice to discuss 8th region with fans.

Doesn’t Eminence have the inside track for the 2 entering tonight’s play? They have beaten Trimble twice and split with Gallatin.
Tonight’s Trimble/Gallatin matchup may be to avoid Owen’s bracket.

Yes that is correct, however they still have to play Owen so that would most likely drop them to 4-4, tied with the winner of the Gallatin/Trimble game.
