2023 Garrard County Golden Lions

Garrard County released their 2023 schedule this morning. Construction on the new stadium is about to begin but Garrard will play their home games at Dyehouse Stadium this upcoming season. The Green County game is part of the Death Valley Bowl at Lincoln County.

Aug 25 vs. Middlesboro
Sep 1 vs. Bullitt Central
Sep 8 at Somerset
Sep 15 vs. East Jessamine
Sep 22 at West Jessamine
Sep 29 vs. Casey County (District)
Oct 6 - BYE
Oct 13 at Marion County (District)
Oct 20 vs. Mercer County (District)
Oct 27 at Harrison County

That is a good schedule for Garrard.  Look for them to improve in 2023.

This can be a 7 or 8 win season for Coach Crutchfield and the Golden Lions, if things go there way in a few toss ups. I expect a good season for Garrard!

What do they have returning?

Garrard will have a huge (6’5 295 - EKU Commit) hole to fill on the OL/DL in Mason Sulla, but return a lot of guys who played significant minutes during an injury riddled 22 season. The guys seem to have been hitting it hard in the weight room and workouts so far and will be another year older as a team. Really good kids that will continue to mature and grow. Hopefully the roster size will increase a bit as well.

RB Malachi Simmons (rising junior) is probably their best player coming back. He should anchor a strong running game for the Golden Lions. The Golden Lions have a very favorable schedule and could be a dark horse in 3A this year.

It seems like Marion was down last year.  Casey had a great year but lost a lot of their main players.  Mercer brings back a lot of their skill guys.  Garrard seems to be bringing back some of their skill guys also.
