Are you implying Luhn/NCC's playstyle lead to Caleb being hurt? No style of play should "ignite" the undercutting of a player shooting a layup. I am a little disturbed with this take.

This whole deal has me confused.  Who's talking about what?

Not implying anything because I was not there.  The style of play comment stands however.  Not sure what that was on Saturday night, but it was not basketball.  Will also stand my comment that NCC should have hired Jimmy Pangallo.

I think we all know what a terrific high school and college player Kevin Listerman was, but I think as Highlands coach, Listerman is an unheralded success story. Imagine if Highlands had become impatient with him with no winning seasons and just 49 wins his first five years and let him go. They may not have won 115 of their last 150 games without the dude.

I think the bigger question initially with Kevin was would he be there for the long haul.  He had many short stints at other schools before accepting the Highlands job.  A big factor in the recent success has been the change in philosophy that I believe was pushed by coaches Blasingame and Orme.  If that style was being played from the jump, Beau Hoge plays hoops and Ben Weyer does not go to NCC.

Can only play the style that the personnel can handle.  Weyer was already gone when Listerman got here.  Hoge wasn’t going to play.  Those first few years HHS didn’t have the dudes so the style wasn’t what it is now.  The program grew, players were developed, and the style changed to fit more skilled dedicated basketball players.

Takes time to build the structures in Rome.

The play in the tournament over Christmas that the Eaglin kid got hurt in.

Most definitely was and that kid should be suspended for the season. I thought you were referencing Friday nights game against Highlands.

Good to know you were not implying anything. Can you expand on this statement in your original post then? "but I can see how it might have been ignited by NCC"

Are you just stating NCC's defensive style leads to higher emotions or dirtier plays? If so, can you describe for me NCC's defensive style you saw Saturday since it was not basketball?

I am sure there are others in the NCC faithful that agree with you on the Pangallo statement.

On the topic of NewCath basketball coaches / hires, is there a reason that no one has stayed more than 3 seasons since Grant stepped down 10 years ago?  I could be off a little, but I think it was Ron for 3 years, than Ken for 3 years, than Ron for another 2 out of "retirement", now Jake is in year #2.  Is there a reason for this, or just a series of independent decision and coincidences?

Feels like more turnover in the last decade than the other larger programs in the area, but I'm saying that off the top of my head...and certainly Ryle has had a ton of turnover at the BBB HC spot, but mostly, the big programs have had 1 or no changes over the last decade.

Or, this is all a giant nothing, but Jack's comment about Jimmy (of which I agree 100%) got me thinking about the amount of coaches since Grant at NCC.

To my understanding Collopy took a principal job at a local grade school which is why he stepped down as HC. Ron seemed to be a plug before and after Collopy. Collopy was an assistant for Ron before taking the reins.

I know some in the NCC faithful rue the missed opportunity at having Pangallo but I do not think there is any ill-will toward the current coach, Luhn.

The style leads to higher emotions primarily.  In the first quarter of Varsity game they had Highlands in the bonus in first quarter.  Coach does not like the calls but they are fouls and in some cases dumb fouls way out on the floor.  It just seemed to me that intent was to try and be physical with no real purpose.  Maybe it was just an off night and things are not normally this way or fact that it was a district seeding game.  The JV game looked like a rugby scrum at times, but that was partly on officiating IMO.

From afar, it looks like NCC isn’t getting the volume and caliber of players they had in the past. Declining enrollment at all the feeder schools and at the high school will do that. The school must be about 1/2 the size of what it used to be in order to be single A in football.  Only 8-10 years ago or less Highlands was getting run out of the gym by NCC.
