Holmes Turmoil....again

Boy, Holmes sounds like a very safe school.

 All three of my sons went there. They never felt unsafe. Or are you just trash talking?

Be thankful other school districts will "with open arms" except the innocent kids that can escape . Would you agree HHS Dad ?;) ;)

I'm guessing Holmes is like every school in the state: 99% are super kids and 1% are bad apples.

I think you maybe wrong with this statement. I don't think most schools have the same bad "pub" coming at them consistently. This isn't the first time we have heard about something like this at Holmes.

Is it because its the only "public, city" school in Kenton County? I know Dixie, Beechwood, SK are all out in the county (so to speak), and then Catholic and Latin, etc. are private. Maybe that's why Holmes get such a bad rap; they get a lot of what's left after the privates and suburban publics get their kids.

No, it was never any attack on "public, city" school at all. Just saying that most schools don't have these problems. This seems to be a pattern at Holmes.

Were you talking "student athletes" or just students?

Didnt something close to this same thing happen last year in Lexington?

Recently Holmes has been in the news as found in the Enquirer article "Auditors Rip Homes High". The full article is at http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061215/NEWS0102/612150398/-1/all

Here is the opening statement:

Many students sleep in class. Teachers rely mainly on textbooks. Homework is rare. And cultural gaps between students and staff lead to unnecessary conflict.

Those were among the criticisms in a state audit of Holmes Junior and Senior High School. Triggered by several years of low test scores, the audit found enough problems that Holmes' school-based council is likely to be stripped of its authority.

Thanks for the link. I was unaware of all of the problems the school currently faces.

This is a huge disappointment to me. It's a shame that Austin and Duran are both going to have to suffer over something dumb. This isn't anything that is going to effect them come tournament time, as they will all be back by then, but as one said, I DO expect them to losea few in a row as well.

But to be honest, some of the things being posted on here shouldn't be allowed. It's really none of your guys business what happened. It was on the news, so you know, but still check rule 9, as HHSDad said.

Thread title would have been more appropriate if it read "Holmes Turmoil Still"

But that is the point....You make it sound like nothing happened, big deal we can still win the tournament. What other school allows this to happen and only suspend the players for only five games. So lets just sweep it under the rug, no big deal.....so we lose a few games. Gee, if we only hadn't been caught......

No violations as I see it. No one (single individual/player or situation) has been singled out.
