It was apparent that Conner did their homework and watched tape on Cov Cath. Congrats to them and good work on a good win. Their defense was on point and they focused on the key areas that would beat of Cov Cath, which are:

• Slowing down Ipsaro because you aren't going to stop him.
• Move the ball quickly to expose Cov Caths often times unorganized Zone matchup defense.
• Hit shots. Conner did this. 
• Assume that in game adjustments defensively by Cov Cath are few and far between. 
  • Ruthsatz sticks with his plan and doesn't really deviate or adjust well always. 
• Make others score aside from Ipsaro
• Focus on the interior if you have a height advantage. Conner did this well.
• Hope Cov Cath is missing. This happened.

The 9th region is competitive and super fun to watch this year. Although, I do believe Cov Cath will be the victor emerging from the region pretty easy. Why? Experience, the best coaching, and player buy in and believing what it takes to win. Not making excuses but the foul discrepancy was major and it was lopsided against the Colonels. 

I would much rather lose now versus later in the season. Losses expose weaknesses, which creates an opportunity for Cov Cath to improve. Count on this happening. Great game to Conner.

Just merely for shameless bragging, just a reminder that in my pre-season review, I had Conner at Number 2, and sang their praises, and said that I was high on the Cougars going into the season. Here as of late they have not disappointed. They’re dynamite shooters.

• Stat summary by Conner: Two role players stepped up and delivered some scoring punch on the inside (season ppg/pts last night) - Grant Reece, Sr C (1.2/7) and Ben Fay, Jr F (2.3/6). Way to play fellas!

• Cory (I think) Henson left during the first half with an injury. Don't think he returned to the game. Hoping for a quick recovery for the young man. 

• Nice, warm, post competition congrats from the losing coach. Respecting the game.

The injured player did not return as He was on the bench, shoulder was iced down and arm in a cast.  Definitely hope He is back and in action quick.  Hate to see that.

Conner has some good games scheduled down the home stretch. I'm circling my calendar for Monday, January 23, when Newport comes to Hebron. Banger.

Mason County (Feb 3) game will be a tough one also and will be Conner’s senior night.

I expect Connor to win out….they certainly are able to no doubt.  Perfect scenario is these 2 teams meeting again for the 9th region Championship.  That would be a game!!!
