2022-23 Region 12 Preseason Outlook

Featured Replies

I think Somerset will surprise some teams this year. Coach Ryan Young does a great job.  Danville will be a team to watch. Barnes and Dunn will be hard to keep off the glass. Also expecting a big year from Jarius Bryant and Demauriah Brown. The key is the development of Ontario Hill, I think he takes Danville to another level with his athletic ability and size. West Jessamine will be starting 5 seniors, so they will be a dangerous team.

Danville will need to find a steady hand at PG.  Someone that can calm them down when they get out of whack.  It's really the only piece I see missing for them.

The one-two punch of Ralston and Alcorn at Lincoln is going to be brutal. Ralston is well-known, but may surprise some as a contender for region POY alongside his comrade Alcorn. I've had a chance to watch them some in scrimmages and Ralston has DEEP range and a green light from Coach Jackson to fire at will, which those of you who know Jackson know he doesn't give many that nod. Add in an, as of right now, healthy Will Bishop and you have an inside-out combo that is hard to bring help in from with the perimeter threats.

Dut is a much different player than the wing DCA had last season, in my opinion. He is more of a finesse player, whereas Xavi Yamo, was very much a power big. I had the privilege of playing in some runs with DCA and played alongside Dut, he compliments Boyd really well and can legitimately handle the ball. He does tend to attack hard, which can seem out of control, but there's a lot of scary potential adding him in. I will be interested to see how they do.

My bold prediction with the ever-open 12th region is that Lincoln and DCA escape from the 45th. That may not be super bold, but most will lump Lincoln and Boyle together. Not taking anything from Boyle, because they will be no slouch as a team, I just think DCA has a tad more firepower at their disposal.

Coach Young at Somerset is extremely underrated and has made a career of cleaning up messes at schools (and doing so very well, I may add). I agree with a post earlier who said that they will be tough to beat night to night, but give them one more season and they will be a problem.

After watching Boyle play in a scrimmage on Saturday, I believe that Boyle will be a little better than I thought.  And that scrimmage was without the football players.

They're always so solid. Fundamentally and physically strong. I wouldn't expect this year to be any different.

Somerset handled a pretty solid Green Co. Team in their final tuneup.  Somerset returning guards (Ben Godby, Indred Whitaker and Jamison Coomer) is a pretty solid backcourt for them.  There will be growing pains with their young posts (SO and two FR… one being the final Grundy).  If they come along, this team could play spoiler no doubt.  But like others have referenced, they may be a year away but I know Coach Young thinks this is his best team to date!
