I'm actually really enjoying the conversation.  People in the know on history of school decisions.  Good stuff.

I saw Greenwood play.  Big, swift, aggressive, and smart football players that get good push north-south and pursue well side-to-side.  I could see a really good passing attack pick them apart, but otherwise they are pretty fundamentally sound. Lets say it was Bowling Green 21 Greenwood 7, would that be a moral victory?

Greenwood really needs to be beyond moral victories if they ever expect to move upward, but yes, that would be a solid result. I’m not sure I think it’ll ultimately be that close. I’d think closer to four scores.

Holding them to 21 would actually be the bigger “moral victory” there. They’ve only held Bowling Green to 21 points (or less) a single time, a 21-3 loss in 2014.

  • To me, Greenwood lately experiences a similar problem to what Central has dealt with twice - their alumni base got split/eroded.  They only got 20 years to build that up before South came along, and t

I would never have thought this Bowling Green vs Greenwood thread would have more pages of comments than Highlands vs  CovCath at this point in the week. This thread has just kept going!  Pretty interesting.

I honestly thought Campbell was pretty decent, I was on that team.  The offense by no means was bad, they just had some games where they were worse than others.  X, Greenwood, Graves to name the most popular ones.

Elaborate lol.

Facilities. Here’s an example. I played baseball at GW 91-92 (1st 2 yrs of school opening) and we literally practiced in gym or front parking lot. We took bp on a field exactly 1 time ALL YEAR. Football played home games at W East. SW had  Experienced coaches in most sports that came from GW. I really could go on and on.

Hey V,

So in that Graves County game, did Campbell hurt his hand during the game?  I've heard different stories on that.

My memories of that game aren’t great seeing as I was a freshman freezing on the bench, however I do think he did.

The biggest memory I have from that game is, I believe #28 for Graves, being an absolute monster.  And of course how cold it was.

Love the Purples/Gators banter! Law of averages says Greenwood will win at some point, just not sure when that point will be.

I'll take BG 35-14.

Hey LTR, since we are discussing all sorts of things BG and/or Greenwood, I was wondering if you were familiar with the St X vs Greenwood Semi-Final game in 2009?  I looked up the stats and it seemed St X had about 150 more rushing yards than GW did.  Plus, GW had 2 INTs in the game, so that had something to do with the 28-6 St X win in that game.

I remember a little bit of that game. I think there was a potential non fumble call that Greenwood recovered that would have set them up with good field position. I think X was up a score when that happened. The game was closer than the "experts" predicted.

X fumbled it on the Greenwood 4, and an inadvertent whistle killed the play.  There were 4 minutes left and the game was 14-6.  Two plays later X scored, and that was game.

Really the issue for Greenwood beyond just losing a needed stop was that there was potential that they were going to take it to the house.  Someone speedy on X might have run them down, but they def would have been in good field position.

I copied the entire film over to my computer to watch the play before I remembered that I had created a video of the angles with slo-mo, lo those 13 years ago:

The side angle will give you the illusion that his knee was down.  The end zone angle isn't perfect as our cameras were not as clear as today, but I've always felt it was clear that the ball was moving before his knee went down. They were down 8, so even if they'd gone to the house, they'd have had to get the two point conversion just to tie the game.  But not getting that, it essentially ended the game.  Pretty much broke Greenwood.

Made this tonight - this is what it looks like with years more experience in editing ? - plus a third angle I forgot I had. (There is some language from the coaches around our side filmer towards the end of the live motion portion - be warned!)

On the third time through at 10% speed, I also pause it briefly at the point where you can see that the ball is moving (in the top right part).  You can plainly see at the bottom right that both knees are off the ground.  It was a tough call, but they got it wrong. Man, 13 years ago.....
