Surely not!!  If they do trade Castillo it’s the final straw that they have NO INTEREST in winning, got the makings of a real good young starting pitching staff, Castillini might back off that after the “where you gonna go” fiasco!

I think he throws Friday (I think that's his scheduled start) against St. Louis but then he's off to a contender.   Sinking feeling in my gut says Tyler Mahle may be right behind him.

According to ESPNs Jeff Passan, Castillo is headed to join Winker and Suarez in Seattle.

Sounds like the Reds got quite a haul for him.

They did get a nice haul.

Marte is a 20-year-old shortstop in High-A this season and was regarded as the top prospect the Mariners had, possibly a top-10 overall guy. He's hitting .270/.360/.460 with 19 doubles, 15 homers, 55 RBI, 61 runs and 12 steals in 84 games. 

Arroyo, 18, was the Mariners' second-rounder last season out of high school. He was considered the Mariners' third-best prospect. In 84 games in Class A this season, he's hit .316/.385/.514 with 19 doubles, seven triples, 13 homers, 67 RBI, 76 runs and 21 stolen bases. 

Stoudt, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher, was the Mariners' third-round pick out of Lehigh in 2019. In 18 Double-A starts this season, he's 6-6 with a 5.28 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 82 strikeouts against 22 walks in 87 innings. He was considered the Mariners' fifth-best prospect. 

Moore, a 22-year-old right-handed reliever, was the Mariners' 14th-round pick last year. MLB.com doesn't have him ranked in the Mariners' top-30 prospects. In 25 outings for Class A, he has a 1.95 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 58 strikeouts against 17 walks in 32 1/3 innings. 

 

I really hope at least two of these guys pan out to be every day players with the Reds.

From a prospects acquired view, the Reds did get a good return here. The top 2 guys are very high level prospects. However, I am always skeptical with prospects below AA. Way too many times the prospects below AA never reach the hoped for potential. Time will tell.

My other comment here. What is the Reds' target year to compete? If it is 2024, doubtful either of the top two guys will be ready to contribute meaningfully. So on the 2024 roster from this trade, the Reds got bullpen depth. 

Added note, I have my team I am rooting for the rest of the year - the Seattle Mariners.

I've always been a "Bird in the Hand" kind of guy, so knowing what we had in Castillo, and witnessing the endless string of "prospects" washing through this program over the years, I'd have preferred to have kept Castillo right here in Cincinnati.  I also profess to know nothing about all of these contract implications.  I always felt that Castillo was a Cincinnati Reds kinda guy, whose record was always underlaid because of the bullpen that failed to protect his leads.  I wish Luis the best of luck and hope that he is in a place where he will be happy, and get to show what he is truly capable of.  Mr. Consistency.
