I actually think Gonzaga is overrated most years.  Their schedule is easier than most of the other top teams and they benefit by only having to get up for a few big games each year.  They were 0-2 vs. the SEC this year.  More than likely they would fair well in a bigger conference but suppose they played 18 SEC games each year, it's unlikely that they would be a perennial #1 seed in the tournament.

It doesn't help that the lighter portion of their schedule takes place in the two months leading up to the tournament.  By the time they play someone worth a nickel in the tournament, it's been a while since they've played somebody worth a nickel.

Now that I think about it they did actually just beat a Penny, but not by very much.

It's really frustrating to go through the same song and dance. Gonzaga plays a tough non-conference schedule and they may even perform well dropping only a game or two. They then reel off 21 of 22 games and each year we hear "this year's Gonzaga team is different." But is it, though? They are the only team to make X consecutive Sweet 16s. Ok, and? When you are gift wrapped a one seed in the traditional easier West region, it makes sense. If my math is right, since Gonzaga became Gonzaga in '99, they have a tournament record of 3-12 against teams seeded 1, 2, or 3.

But hey, Mark Few said they should be really proud cause they are the only team that could hold until the #1 ranking most the year.

If you picked them past the elite 8, you’re an idiot, myself included… I really thought this was their year. Complete bracket buster.

They play no one the last 8 weeks of the season. Why I continue to believe in them is beyond me.
