Dixie Heights 65 Covington Holy Cross 57 (9th Region Semifinals)

? Final from BB&T Arena at NKU.

Red Colonels vs. Blue Colonels for the title on Tuesday.

Props to @InsideSlant for the pics in the update thread. Great to hear game analysis by Coach Bert Richey on @859Radio.

What’s the situation with Ward? Looks like he quit during the game.

I'm a huge Jacob Meyer fan. 40 of Holy Cross's 57 points. In a 9th Semi Finals game. Holy Cross has great kids on that team and know their roles. I love small schools. Imagine Jacob with a supporting cast like some of the big schools in the state have. No disrespect to anyone.

Might be strange to say this when Meyer ended with 40, and kudos to him for sharing the ball, but while he was undoubtedly their money maker, there was a good chunk of time there in the 2nd half where he time and again opted to pass on shots, and pass the ball instead.

I kept thinking that if he had just stayed the course doing his thing the outcome might’ve been entirely different. He was absolutely dynamite when he was in control. The entire team knows his worth, and I wonder if they would have minded any if he had just taken over, like the entire time. If they had won because he took every shot, I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with that.

Things weren’t clicking with Ward like they were with him against Conner. Some were wondering what was happening with him. As of now I haven’t heard anything regarding that, but it sure seemed odd.

Congrats to the Red Colonels for making it to the finals. You’ve had a great consistent season, and stayed in the top 3 most of the way, and have proved that you were worthy of never having dropped from being rated one of the top dogs in the region. Good luck against the Blue Colonels!

Things weren't clicking because HC did nothing to get him open.  Conner left him open time and time again Sunday night.  Dixie face guarded him early causing HC to have to work to get him open, but seemed like they were just content with having him stand on the 3 point line and watch Meyer.  I think he only ended up with 5 points on 2 for 2 shooting?

When Wogenstahl went out for nearly all the 2nd due to fouls, it seemed like HC sat Gibson for most of that time too.  That didn't seem to make sense at all either.

Meyer is one heck of an offensive player.  His body control when going up for a shot is unreal. And his ability to finish is one of the best I've seen.

Looks like Ward took a few more shots that I thought after seeing the stats.

And it sounds like he checked himself out of the game mentally in the 2nd half.  Seems to be an issue of his that he's trying to work through.  I would imagine it would be hard for any kid that could put up 20+ every night to stand and watch and not touch the ball possession after possession for long stretches.

You really said this?

What's wrong with what I said?  I'm just relaying what his mother said publicly and saying I could see other kids having the same issue when in that type of situation.

I go back to this - there are some seniors on that team who would run through walls just to play a minute.  i applaud each and every one of them.  That is who you should be talking about today.

  • Maddux Hoffman
  • Cade Lehmkuhl
  • Ryan Pulsport
  • Zach Arlinghaus
  • Dillon Arlinghaus

no way i spelled their names correctly and i apologize but i thank you for being able to watch you play with passion all year.  NO MATTER WHAT. This group won 21 games based on you guys setting the table at practice and games.

I for one, agree with you.

Taking nothing away from the other kids, but every team has role players.  Without Meyer and Ward this team wins about 8/9 games.

For sure but to be fair take the top 2 scorers and (56 pts in this case) off any team and they wouldn’t win many games. I get what you are saying but that’s a comparison you can make with 95% of all teams.

Name me another team that has a player averaging 40 per game.

Agreed that HC wins way more games with Meyer than without.  He is a tremendous once in a generation player for a school like HC.  That being said his job is going to be a lot tougher without the kids playing defense, setting screens, grabbing rebounds and basically busting their butts every minute they are in the game.

That isn’t my point. You said if they didn’t have either they would win 8/9 games. I agree with that and also saying if we take top 2 scorers from every team off those teams they win maybe 8/9 as well. Nothing more not trying to start anything. Maybe I’m wrong…
