Andrew Elkins, he was the sophomore QB who took over the position in the 3rd game of last season. He is very balanced, runs the offense well and can throw. Great looking young QB who I think will open some eyes this year.

What Soph's to be will see considerable playing time next season?

The Lovern kid is the only one I have heard any hype about. I assume he is likely to step in at one of the vacant DB spots? The Coleman kid is likely to fill in another DB spot, along with Preston and Elkins?

I look for big things out of Sutherland on the defensive line. With him, Totten, Bowens, and Lee all returning to the front 5, Belfry should be decent up front. May and Dotson return at LB's and that should further improve the front 7. The defense has a lot of returning experience and should be good IMO. It all hinges on whether or not Belfry has enough speed in the secondary.

I hope Hickman is given the oppurtunity to play RB this upcoming season. I know he had problems with fumbles, but I thought we exploded through the hole well the few times I saw him carry.

I think this team has a bunch of SOLID players, but lacks standout talent. IMO, they are a couple stud O-lineman and 1 or 2 speed burners away from a 3a title this upcoming season. Not saying they can't make a run, but it will be difficult without breakaway speed.

Belfry will always be solid. Very well coached.

I agree with the great games comment.

Belfry will now get to play 6 non-district games each year (compared to 4 last year)

This year the have:

Corbin

Pikeville

Shelby Valley

Lawrence County

West Jessamine

Johnson Central

Should be real nice from a fans perspective.

Is the complete schedule available anywhere? The Riherd's site doesn't have '07 available yet.

Belfry will be your typicall Phillip Haywood football team. They will start off slow and peak at the right time. They will make few mistakes and always give themselves a chance to win the game in the end. Belfry will very seldom beat themselves. May is going to be one of the best in AAA next year, but like others have said he is not explosively fast. I think the Pond Creek Nation is going to be one tough out next year and with some breaks can do something special, but I don't see them walking on the carpet (in Louisville) unless they find a burner some where.

IMO what I saw in the last game against Russell was highly disappointing to me. I saw various mental breakdown penalties and some Belfry's players actually fighting each other in the huddle. All this was EXTREMELY uncharacteristic of a Phillip Haywood coahed team and Im sure hes addressed his team about this. Belfry will always Belfry so regardless of theyre lack of size or speed theyll not be taken lightly be any team they play.

The Belfry/Pikeville game will be another classic next year IMO. It was the best game in this part of the state in 06 IMO.

Belfry has "good" speed overall to put on the field. They just don't have the gamebreaking speed needed to hit home run plays.

It will show up unless they can get much more out of their passing game than they have in years. Good defenses will make them grind it out. That leads to turnovers.

Heck, I don't know about everyone else but I can't wait for football season. I am very excited about the upcoming season, I think we will see some different looks from Belfry this year, I hope the passing game comes along as I think it will. Ivan Lee if used in the backfield should be a stud!

Agree on Lee, but not so sure we will see more passing.

I would love to see even a little improvement in the passing game, but I think Belfry could benefit just as much if Elkins gets stronger/better at running the triple option. If he could get to the level of Brad Hatfield I think Belfry would really benefit.

Pirate football fans are not very abundant on this site. I don't know where they went. I have been on here since 02 (under one name or another) and as of now, there is less Pirate football talk than I have every witnessed.

I hope it picks up.

Whats the word from Pond Creek?

Who's this Belry you speak of????????

^Two years removed from back-to-back AA State Titles and still someone wants to poke fun.

I am just kidding I know who Belfry is, ever heard of Matt McCoy?

The chatter sure has died down around this team.

Anything would be appreciated.
