It’s going to be a disaster. Where will they practice? Will kids be bused everywhere? Having all those kids on 2 different sides of town will be so hard to manage. What building will the principal be in?

I don't think it's THAT crazy. These aren't the first schools in history to consolidate. How did things go at McCracken County when they merged all of their schools...I'm gonna assume that with three schools consolidating, they were having to have at least some kids working out in weight rooms/campuses that were not the one at the school they attended.

I had someone tell me recently that when Muhlenberg County consolidated, they a school year where it was a "consolidated" school with freshman/sophomores at one of the old campuses and juniors/seniors at the other campus...then they all moved into the new campus once it was ready.

Hell, Cov Cath had to drive all their players to Devou Park for football practice until the mid-80s, and the soccer team was practicing in Pioneer Park. Highlands has the baseball and softball teams both drive across town to Tower Park to practice because they don't have a baseball field. Same with Trinity - their baseball team won the state championship last year without having a baseball field on campus.

This may not be ideal, sure, but it's a temporary headache, and it's manageable.

I’m talking about the consolidation before the building. The county is so large land wise and having the kids on different sides of town and not in 1 building is going to be chaotic.

I guess you have me kind of confused. Hopkinsville High School's campus is only 3-1/2 miles away from Christian County High School. I'm assuming if they're going to have a consolidated football team, that they're going be holding their off-season strength and conditioning workouts at one campus instead of two...and I'm just not seeing the huge problem with that.

Less convenient for some? Yes. "Chaotic"? "Disaster"? I'm just not seeing it being quite so bad as you say.

Google Maps says it's a 10 minute drive. Is it that chaotic to have a bus waiting outside of one school to drive the football players 10 minutes over to the other school? And again...this is a temporary measure. I get it that there's some headache involved until the new campus is up and running. If they put 9/10th grade together and 11/12th grade together in the respective buildings, it could be a good thing.  Basically have your freshman and JV team in one building and your varsity in another.

That's what my Dad wanted to do at Boyle in the early 70's but he was never able to pull it off.... in regards to having a separate JV program with their own coaches, etc. I still have that plan written out some where. 

I thought it was interesting... Coach Smith started out at Boyle with the freshman separate but as it evolved, became more of a JV team with sophomores who would get more practice reps with the younger guys. Covid forced us to do the same thing at Mercer , and it turned into a good thing. Our sophomores who would have stood around and watched, actually got practice reps with the younger guys. 

If I can ever get a new job, unless it is a Class A or AA school, would really try to have JV separate from varsity. The more kids that can actually get coached, get reps, and actually participate in practice, the better. And, of course , the freshman and sophomores that are Friday night ready, would be moved on to the Varsity.

Has Muhlenberg actually built a new building? I thought they were still doing as your describe.

No. Christian County is landwise the2nd  largest in the state behind Pike. Depending on enrollment, it’s going to be a top 3 enrollment for a public school in the state. Like a kid living in Oak Grove (basically by Clarksville) and a kid from Crofton (near Madisonville) will have to navigate 2 campuses through all that traffic to get it done.

I get it that it's a big county.  I get it that you clearly are against the schools consolidating. I get it that you are trying to dig for reasons why this is the biggest problem in the history of the Pennyrile.

Current two campuses are located 3.7 miles apart (~10 minute drive). So currently, anyone in who lives in Christian County who has kids going to school in CCPS - be they Oak Grove residents or Crofton residents or Hoptown residents or Fearsville residents - has to get their kids to and from Hopkinsville for school every day, and are driving to one of two school campuses that are located within 10 minutes of one another.

The new school site is located 7.3 miles from Christian County High School and is only a 12 minute drive if you use the Pennyrile Parkway. The new school site is located 4.3 miles from Hopkinsville High School and is an 8 minute drive from that campus. The new school site is located 2.4 miles from the Stadium of Champions and is a 3 minute drive from the stadium.

So if you look at this logically (and you're gonna have to do me a favor and give it a try), regardless of where you're coming from in the county, regardless of how big it is, you're looking at having no more than 12 more minutes added onto your drive to the school when you switch from driving from the old campus you were driving your kids to to the new campus.

And as far as having to "navigate 2 campuses" is concerned, again, I'll repeat what I've said multiple times now: this is a temporary measure. They are consolidating BOTH schools into one campus, and utilizing two separate campuses for one high school is only temporary until the new school is completed.

Who is this guy?

Good decision by Clark I think.  He is a great coach, but I believe he had peeked at McCracken.  Lost a lot of kids, saw a dip in numbers and wins last season.  Made the right decision in the long run for himself to rebuild and stay at a larger school.  Strike while the irons hot!  

Only if he has been promised the new job at the Academy?
