How about Mike Whitaker. Tandy has graduated and it would get him close to home. Has won every were he has been. A big name. Sounds like a match. Donahue can coach but I don't believe he would pull a Pitino on Harlan.

Whitaker could be possibility but I don't think Harlan County will go after Donahue even if he wanted to pull a Pitino.

I have to believe Eric Perry (new Cawood coach) is too good to be hired as a one or two year throwaway. It would make much more sense that he is intended to stay on at least as Defensive Coordinator for Harlan County or as Head Coach.

Lets put the unsaid out there that Tim Saylor fully intends to be the 1st Head Coach of the Black Bears, according to many many County School insiders. Maybe with Coach Perry as defensive Coordinator. You guys can elaborate on that thought.

It would be awful hard for Coach Saylor to be the superintendent and the head football coach. I don't think that will happen.

Mike Whitaker would be a great hire imo. He would have plenty of athletes to run his system and excel on a consistent basis. At Corbin he had one of the best high school teams I have ever seen back in 96 but that kind of talent doesn't come around that often. It was hard to run his offense with hoss cat farm boys made for the smashmouth style. He's won everywhere he has been and would get my vote for the job. I think the world of Coach Whitaker and hope they consider him.

I really don'tthink that overall record should really matter that much. Youy must look at what they have completed with the program to which they are currently running. This will show more merit than their past. For example, if a coach takes a team over and goes 1-9, 4-7, 6-4 and 9-1 in four years his overall record is 20-22. His overall record is still below .500, but look what he has done for the program. Just my opinion though.

You guys have mentioned three (3) really good coaches in Hylton, Holcomb, and Saylor. Someone also mentioned Donahue the coach at Harlan High. He has had 3 or 4 good seasons, but his overall record is 83-71 in 14 or 15 years which is just above 500. I would not consider Donahue being a "big" name coach at this time. This is not any disrespect towards Donahue and Harlan, but I do not think posting a overall record like this puts him on that big name level.

Rather it be Western, Ky not being his type of place or not being happy with his wifes job in the school system. He's had a great run of athletes at Christian Co. but been inconsistent in the playoffs. 6 years at Christian Co. 05 & 06 were the only years he has had the same Defensive Coordinator consecutive years. He's a good offensive coach but has had difficulties at times relating to the kids at Christian Co.

Whitaker did pretty good at Leslie County with a guy named Tim in the mid 90's.

Tiny VanHoose is just across the hill. I believe he could get the job done.

It would be too hard, so look for one job to stop and the other start one day in a surprise move. :sssh:

He's improved Christian Co. as far as winning in the regular season. He's been inconsistent in the playoffs. In 2001 he inherrited one of Christian Co.'s better freshmen classes and a sophomore class that had 5-6 kids start or play a lot of varsity ball as freshmen. Early on there he took some criticism for not playing a tougher regular season schedule. He's improved on that the last 2 years and next years schedule is a good one. Not to take anything away from Whitaker but the strengthening of their schedule as a lot to do with the arrival of Steve Lovelace. The administration asked him his opinion on programs and if playing them would be beneficial. He's starting to get some consistency on his staff and not have coaches leave for other programs or leave coaching all together.

 

Whitaker didn't make the Christian Co. people happy last year when they blew a 21 point lead in the playoffs to Warren Central. What upset most was the fact that Whitaker publicly in the paper and on the radio blasted the officials and said his team wasn't beat they was robbed by the refs and added he was cheated.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about Tim Saylor taking the job. The people that I have spoken to said there is no way.

Time will tell. If he did, can you imagine Tim and Coach Perry as a team? All is speculation, however, some of my rumour mill are pretty close. For now Cawood has a great new coach for their last year.
