Ashland vs Huntington Prep scrimmage

I said nothing about offers I said they only had one presently commited and that was to Oregon state.  If these other 2022 players were so good they would be commited to a power 5 conference team already.

Correct you didn’t say anything about offers just like I didn’t say elite.  I really think you know that only 2023 kids can only commit?  Cruz isn’t 2022 Johnson 2023 and Flowers 2024.

  • Finally got a chance to watch the entire game on Mytowntv.  My takeaways;  Do I think that this team is the best team in the state?  Honestly....no.....but.....just like in boxing a slugger always has

  • They’re kids. I root for the all the local schools and kids whenever they play kids from other areas. To each their own however. You’re welcome to cheer for or against whomever you want.

  • That's a really high bar to hold for a team to be considered elite.

You are Right I don't like Ashland just like I'm sure most Ashland fans don't like Russell. It's called Rivals. I honesty did think it was probably the JV team though because in the past they brought their JV team to play Ky teams.

Lewis Duarte     G     6'6     2022

 Seth Hubbard     G     6'4     2022

Dok Muordar     C     6'11     2022

What about these 3?

Cruz is indeed 2022 he just decommited from Oregon state from what I just found per rivals.

I’m still thinking 2023, but you win you have some proof of something. I will root for the local teams including your Red Devils.

My brother was at the game and he said there were quite a few college coaches in the stands watching the game. I watched the game on the local streaming service.

Ashland played more as a team in the game. They spread the floor and moved the ball so efficiently that it’s difficult to stop their shooters. They have so many good 3 shooters (made 17 on 50% accuracy), and then there’s Porter controlling the offense and directing. And it’s not like they just settle for 3s, they will take it to the hoop as well. And they defend and rebound well. Also can fastbreak like crazy.
Huntington Prep has some studs for sure. My brother said several of them had big D1 offers from schools like Oregon State, Marquette, UCLA, and others, and one of them has drawn UK’s interest. They have a good team but it seemed like Ashland kind of kept them off balance and out of sync all night.

Ashland has another tough opponent next Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown for a scrimmage. E-Town is the defending state runner-up and I think most of their players are returning due to the state legislature’s extra year pandemic law. What I remember about them in the state tournament is how fast they are in transition. Good team, well coached and fun to watch. So, Ashland will have their hands full with the Panthers.

If Huntington prep is so elite this season they should win the geico national championship in 2022.

I think the original plan was for most of those kids to return but I do know that changed. A couple of them, the Sherrard brothers to be exact, are playing college football at Kentucky Wesleyan. The updated roster on KHSAA doesnt list any of those kids from last year being on the team this season. Who really knows though. Either way I dont think Ashland will struggle with them.

Finally got a chance to watch the entire game on Mytowntv.  My takeaways;  Do I think that this team is the best team in the state?  Honestly....no.....but.....just like in boxing a slugger always has a chance, this team will always have a "shooters" chance. They also have athletic ability and skills that are off the charts. They do lack in size relative to most other top teams in the state but they have been dealing with that for the last two years and have learned through experience and great coaching to deal with it.  When the shots are falling it opens up drive lanes and allows this team to beat teams like Huntington Prep. On the other hand if they're not, on a given night they could lose to a lesser team.  I know I'm stating the obvious that you have to make shots to win but this team has so many shooters that the nights where someone is not hitting will be few and far between. I like their chances and would love to see a relatively small school from the east bring home the title.
